sorry folks. the rapture's been cancelled
jesus ain't comin' back.

read all of the verses up to this one. they speak of the "end times." after this verse, it speaks of being ready. now, why would jesus say that their generation would be alive when he came, if he really wasn't going to come for thousands of years? why would he tell his disciples to be ready, if they were going to be DEAD and in heaven by the time he came back?
there was no rapture. there never will be a rapture.

Well that's it then, I'm convinced...NOT!
Really, what was the point of this thread? Did you need to reinforce your disillusion?

son, that ain't right.
The generation he was refering to was the generation who would see those signs wouldn't pass away till he came back, and since those signs won't happen till the end then we know he wasn't refering to the disciples generation.
The fig tree parable with it's new leaves explains this

i considered the possiblity that "this" generation did not mean "your" generation, but then there's still another question:

i'm sorry, i thought you had been here for a few years. do you really need me to break out the FAQ about why we start these threads? would you like to participate in the topic, or just ask stupid questions?

Jesus is talking about the generation alive at the time when the signs of the end of the age appear. Also if we continue reading down to verse 36 we find that Jesus didn't know when he would be returning, only god the father knew. For all Jesus knew his father may have sent him to return before the generation alive at his time had died.

well he limited himself when he came to earth so he didn't actually know the date he was coming back. So he was able to answer truthfully.

so, you're telling me that there is no trinity? sounds like a new topic.
i redirect yet another person to my question.

and to striker: the fig tree doesn't show that it wasn't THEIR generation. wtf are you getting that idea from?

well the fig tree was showing that when the branches were tender and leafy it was close to judgement.
So when we start seeing end time signs we know Jesus is coming back <100 years.
Basically when the anti-christ comes we know we're pretty close

um, there's nothing in that parable that says it's not going to happen in their generation, but in a future one. you're simply twisting it to whatever you want it to mean. furthermore, you just said jesus didn't know when he was returning, and then said that he knew he WASN'T coming back during their lives, based on the parable. so, let me get this straight, he made himself NOT know exactly when he was returning, but allowed himself to know that it wouldn't be during their lives? this is insane.

He came to earth as a man to show us how to serve God(the father), so he limited himself to show if he could do it so could we.

but the whole chapter makes it clear it's in a future generation.
I wasn't refering that parable to their generaion but the future generation

OK I hate debating this stuff these days but here we go Bra........
1. Read the whole chapter leading up to this verse BEFORE replying to this post.
2. Let me know if you can pinpoint a time in which ALL THESE THINGS have happened.
3. Ill start you off simple with this one, "Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
^^^ That hasnt even been possible until the last 100 years
4. If he would have told them as if it WASNT THEM he would have in essence told them when it WILL NOT HAPPEN. Therefore by keeping the whole thing in the air, the principle of "working out your salvation with fear and trembling" remains in effect. A child knows this little trick when it comes to secret keeping, I would expect an intelligent man like yourself to understand it as well

that's ridiculous. it's a lot easier for someone to follow a religion when THEY ARE GOD, and THEY'VE BEEN TO HEAVEN, and THEY KNOW THEY'LL BE GOING BACK. if his plan was to basically say, 'gee, i can do it, so you can too," then that was a pretty bad plan.
still waiting for an expanation of why he'd know he wasn't coming back for their generation, but didn't know exactly when he'd come back. what would be the point in that?

i love how people say read the whole chapter, why dont you explain it
furthermore why would your genius god will to have a book in which a chapter of context is needed for the clarification of one sentence, when you guys talk to christ later on today make sure you tell him "thank you for being so straight forward and to the point"

I started with a simple verse. Was that not sufficient? Would you enter a science debate without reading a science book?

well that plan was to teach us to know the will of God. He even said you'll do greater things than I because he was going to send us the holy spirit. So yeah theoretically I could do even more work than Jesus, call me Jesus Mach 2
seems like a good plan to me.

He didn't actually say though, unless there's a passage i'm forgetting about. alot of the disciples just presumed he would.

well because there was no darkening of the moon or stars falling from the sky. That's one of the signs and they haven't happened yet. I think the moon turns red as well.
The fig tree parable was saying basically when you see these signs you know the end is coming soon, much like when the fig tree starts to bloom you know it's very close to the harvest

maybe you should tell this to striker, as he just told me that the fig parable was saying that it WASN'T their generation.
anyway, isn't that a bit deceitful? it sounds as if he's saying the rapture will happen during their lifetimes. and GOOD parents don't use fear to discipline.

what? so god made himself a man, put himself on earth, served himself, and expected everyone to serve his god-self because his man-self could do it? how is a person serving god out of faith the same as jesus, who knew he was god but not god, yet the holy spirit, yet not the holy spirit, and knew was going to be back in heaven with himself who is not really himself but god, yet not god?

If you read it you would know that it stemmed from a question about 'when his kingdom would be set up'. Then you would understand that all the events he speaks of after that would be the leading up to his reign. Then when he finishes with, "when you see these things THIS generation will not pass" you would understand that no generation has seen all of these things, therefore the time is not upon us
