help with nutrition, was asked in nutrition thread. Got deleted?
the question is not for me. My son, whom is a freshman this year won the starting guard job on the varsity football team. He busted his tail all summer with me and the team to get his core lifts up to be in the 1,000 club. Not bad for 14. He is currently 6'-2" and 265 solid but still a little baby fat in the middle. My question is this.
how do I structure a diet for him so he has food when needed for practices and recovery that he can take to school.
Here is his schedule:
6:00 am weight room
12:00 lunch. I do think they have a break in there somewhere.
4:00 football practice
6:30 +/- practice is over.
I need a good maintaince diet for him so he won't loose any muscle weight. He is a little young to be playing varsity at that position so he needs to keep every advantage he can, losing weight during the season will hurt.
thanks
Doug

At 14, these are extraordinary accomplishments. If I understand correctly, at 14, you are saying that he is exceeding 1,000 pounds in bench, squat, and deads? If so, that is even more incredible.
Also: if he is 6'2" and 265 at 14 who can hoist over a grand, you are looking at a prodigy. Just give him whatever he wants to eat. If he is hoisting over a grand at starting at 14, losing a little weight is not going to cause him to suffer at the high school football level.

BTW, your post wasn't deleted from that thread in the Nutrition forum. It is on the last page of the thread and the fellow gave a pretty good answer.

thanks, like I said, he busts his butt. He is getting his 1,000 lb club stuff when school starts back which is Thursday. He is happy about that but he is a little worried about his weight. The baby fat is his problem, he just saw the number and got worried. I just told him I would consult some people that have been through it for some opinions. (I didn't tell him it was bb.com) He has been pitching for the varsity since 7th grade. He went from little league to HS in one year. That was an eye opener for him. Right now he throws mid 80's and can hit the cover off the ball. Fortunatly the baseball coach knows when they will need him the most and don't over throw him.

Do you mind if I ask where you are from? A 14 year old who's jacking over a grand, and is pitching in the mid-80s doesn't stay under the radar too long or easily.
I 'm sure you have colleges kicking down your door already?

Sure, we are in Smithville Mississippi. A little south of Tupelo. He had a good pro day scout day in June. The marlins and rangers talked to him a while and told him they would help get his name out to colleges. He has letters to a few colleges in this area like Ole Miss and a few Jr colleges. He wants fla state. I told him he needs a felony charge to be accepted there. He is still young and has time to mature. If he keeps working he should come out in a good position to go to a decent college. This area has alot of talent.

Living just a couple of hours north of Tallahassee, I found this quote absolutely hysterical!
Congrats to your son on his achievements! My son (who's 6) is begging to work out, so who knows...in a few years, it might be me who's son is joining the 1,000 lbs club
Hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions via PM, do you?
Tom

Tell him we'll take good care of him in North Carolina. We need the help; no prior felonies required

If he plays basketball it would be a good idea, as much as he likes Florida State it would kill him to have to play aginst them. I keep telling him, sports begin and end in the SEC!

I have a buddy from Tallahassee (die hard FSU fan, of course). He says that's a misconception; it actually applies to Miami

If Coach Bowden (sp) called him, he would officially pass out.

Coach Bowden is a decent guy, good morals. My buddy that I mentioned, told me that Coach encourages his players to attend church.
In my opinion though, I think he may retire by the time your son turns 18.. sad to say.

Since you are so close to Oxford I am sure Coach O already has your son on his radar. Ole Miss has one of the top O line coaches in Art Kehoe. Your son couldn't play for a better position coach.

He went to the recruit day last season when they opened with Memphis. He got to eat and play games in the Manning center and come out of the tunnel before the players. When the crowd cheered for the recruits and he got to experiance that I think that was his turning point during the offseason. I would like him to go to Oxford but I think Coach Bianco (sp) is the one he wants. He just sent him his showcase grade sheet today.

He kinda falls into the crowd here. I think there is something in the water. The O-line averages 290+ and one of the backup O-tackles, which is also a freshman, is 6'-5" and 275-285. The Smithville team is actually alot of Juniors and Freshman. They will have a decent season this year but within the next 3 they should contend for the state title.

Send me some of that water and a side order of grits,black-eyed peas, hamhocks, turnip greens, sweet-tea, and some peekan pie in case the water don't take. You know what I am talking about

Thats funny, that was nearly Sunday's supper. We are eating out of the garden now, I'm about tired of cucumbers they grew the best. I can't give them away anymore. Tomatoes and beans survived the drought. Nothing beats green beans cooked with some hamhock, onion, and those small potatoes. with some sweet cornbread.

I was checking the board before bed and was going to thank all that responded to it. As I re read the whole thread I was wondering if you knew that by the 1,000 lb club that it is a combined lift total. The bench, squat, and deadlift totals are added together to get a thousand. I don't know if I am just tired or not but I hope I didn't mislead you to thinking he can bench a grand. I would have a tee shirt made and put it on youtube if he could do that. Sorry if thats what I made you think. that would be retard strong. I'll try to keep this board posted to how he does this year. I think I am going to migrate away from the misc to here.

You can't go wrong with Bianco. He has turned our baseball program into one of the best in the country. He is a great coach.
