xbox 360 price drop coming soon.
At fatwallet forums people are talking about circuit city as well as other retailers dropping x-box 360 prices in 1-2weeks.
360 Core: $279 ($30 off)
360 Premium: $349 ($50 off)
360 Elite: $449 ($30 off)

I'm still waiting for x-mas sales and maybe combinations w/15-20% coupons that float around for stores every now and then.

They just had a price decrease for the PS3 too. I think it was about $100 off for the 60gb version making it now $499 which isnt bad considering youre getting a blue-ray.

Well I just spent $1200 for a new PC, and all the games I want on the 360 are available on the PC at a lower price with better graphics and sound, along with many games that may never be available on the 360.
Also I can do many more tasks with my PC than just games. So no Xbox 360 for me unless the price drops really low.

Old news...
But still cool.
To be honest Sony timed it pretty badly. A few weeks into the dreaded "summer drought", with no big name games to ride off of. The boost was considerable but temporary.
For the 360, it's well timed to be right before Bioshock and Blue Dragon, then the heavy hitter Halo 3.
Whatever, I got both consoles before the price drop.

Well if you only want to play games, you're sure as hell not going to find a 350 dollar gaming computer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360 Under "retail configurations".
Wikipedia can explain it better than I can.

elite and premium are pretty much the same thing except elite has more memory and is black.
cores suck because it takes games longer to load without a hardrive.

Premium is basically what most people own. The harddrive is more then big enough for just about anything, $349 is really reasonable for such a solid gaming system, there are generally sales at the bigbox retailers where you can get like a free year of Xbox Live or a Game or a Controller etc so overall that is what you should aim for.
The Elite has the way bigger Harddrive & HDMI output which is cool, but not sure if its totally worth it. The Core would still be a good basic gaming deal, but I can't seem to use it, I've had friends bring it over and some games won't let you play without making a profile? I'm sure there is a way around it (memory card), but by then you've already dropped almost as much as a new system.
With the extended warranty you can get a Premium for about $280 from GameCrazy and if it ever stops working just get a new one from Microsoft

Hey Check this out
300 Movie Edition
Engadget has a competition running at the moment where the winner receives one of 20 300-Edition Xbox 360 Elite.[33] The console has signatures from Frank Miller and Zack Snyder. The winners will also receive a DVD / HD DVD Combo of the 300 movie which release coincides with the competition.

The Elite should have a HD Player already installed. How can you call a system Elite if you have to buy an add on to watch movie's on it. Dumb move by Microsoft.

So when HD DVD loses the console race you're stuck with a more expensive machine that's useless?
That was the point of making it separate. Microsoft doesn't give a flying crap how HD DVD does, they were just offering it to people who wanted to have an HD player. If it fails they don't care because their business is gaming. Sony included the Blu-Ray player because that's their new hit thing. They don't advertise their system as a gaming console because that's not what they want people to buy it for, they're pushing Bu-Ray on you. That's why they're desperately getting as many people to back it as possible. The PS3 is just a way of distributing it out to a larger demographic. Microsoft already said if Blu-Ray wins they'll happily offer a Blu-Ray option for the 360.

Ditto, but I have feeling it'll be a while before you see a clear cut winner for this. If anything we'll eventually just see dual players and then even longer after that one will start to phase out and by then the next big thing will be here anyway. DVD is not going anywhere for a long time so right now the majority could care less about Blu-Ray or HD DVD.
