Exclamation What is the point of Towel Bench? what does it work/do?

My towel bench sucks, i bench about 235 or so and i oonly do like 185 towel three times when kids that barley do 220 do 225 towel 3 times, i dont know why mine sucks so im wondering, what muscle does it work, why mine might suck, and whats the point of it?thanks

no, we call it towel bench at my school but we use like 3 2'' by 3' nailed together and you put it on your chest and then just bench

i know what hes talkin about.

You put something on your chest and its like a regular bench press.

It has less benefits than a regular bench press, and the towel bench probobly works less muscles.

Im surprised that ur towel bench is lower than your bench, you don't go as far and the towel doesnt make you go all the way down.

It makes you stop the bar on your own with out bouncing it off your chest. therefore it stresses your pecs at the point when you have to stop the bar. Plus it takes more stess off your shoulders b/c when you bring down the bar all the way it can hurt your rotator cuff

Yeah i know about towel benches. we only did them at my old school tho. But then again, that team sucked. Where you bench down onto something sitting on your chest. and thats about it..

The reason you might be able to bench less might be because you bounce it off your chest normally. Cant be sure tho

Sorry I'm still laughing at that pic. Fuc**ng funny.
I am going to give a guess that you don't want that weight hitting that board to hard and crushing your entire chest so you are using a little more control and slow on the way down which uses more negative force then pushing up for your positive.
So in short you are still getting a good workout but I would assume you are doing more negative weight now.

Towel Benching is designed to help you break a plateau. When I am benching a heavy weight, sometimes I get stuck about 3-4 inches off of my chest. This is where the towel bench is set, and it really targets getting passed the point where you can't get it. I can't believe more people haven't heard of towel benching, don't feel dumb man.

Let me clear it up

Its similiar to a board press, good for PLers to up their bench and break plateus by working each part of the bench, accompinied by band work, Floor presses and maybe some JM presses, it could really up your bench.

I have nothing against towels, just from personal experience, boards work much better
