DAMMIT! cauliflower ear again, anyone whose had it drained i need input
i noticed last night after practice my left ear is kinda swollen, and theres like, a cut behind my ear too. i dont really wear my headgear during practice which i know is stupid but i had really hoped this wouldnt happen.
ive had cauliflower ear before, and i know some people will say this is impossible but i didnt get it drained until at least a month or so after it happened. it mightve even been as long as 6 weeks because in my individual football picture that year, my ear looks perfectly fine, and that was before we had any games and 2 weeks after the last time i had wrestled. i didnt get it drained until the day of the 6th game of the season, so yeah it really had been a long ass time between the time my ear got hurt and the time i got it drained, and the procedure went perfectly fine and you cant even tell i ever had it. this would seem strange because common knowledge about it says if you dont get it drained within the first few weeks it will calcify and your ears will be stuck like that, but mine werent.
anyways, my question is, since this is very new, it hasnt even been a full day yet, if i get this drained within a week or so, will it be as involved as it is when its been there a while cause when i had it done last time, they had to give me about 3 shots in my ear, then make an incision and push all the stuff out. since its new is the procedure any easier? like do they just stick a needle in it and get all the blood out?
or does it not make any difference assuming i get it done within a reasonable amount of time?
thanks

anyways about the thread, nevermind guys i dont think its cauliflower ear, just turns out the cut from a couple weeks ago has gotten really infected and its caused my ear to swell. kinda tough to keep stuff clean when its in places you cant feel or see.

i have cauliflower ear in my right ear. I got it drained two times, which was 3 years go and my ear is still deformed looking (nothing too serious, but it is noticeable when I have short hair). Your best bet would be to get it drained as soon as possible and then WEAR HEADGEAR! I know guys who have missed the end of their season because they just let their ears get so bad that headgears didn't protect them.
even if you dont have cauliflower, wear your head gear.

If you get it done quickly it shouldn't be too bad. I actually aspirated my own a few years ago without too much problem. I got it again a little later, but I just let it go. I've got a noticable right ear now. I just count it as a battle scar.

i suppose if i lived in iowa or pennsylvania or something i might think girls would dig the cauliflower ear, but not in massachusetts. none of them have ever even seen wrestling let alone understand why someones ear looks like a piece of chicken.

i got my ears drained several times in high school - believe me, you'll be happy you did it in a few years - I wrestled for years and years and my ears aren't bad at all. When I had it done they used to stitch through the ear and sew a piece of cotton on each side of the ear - looked kind of funny - they probably have a better way now though

haha nope, they dont. i had to walk around with a stupid yellow thing sewn to my ear for 3 days. i had to play a football game with it, i couldnt take my helmet off during the national anthem i probably looked like a nazi, it was just too much of an ordeal to put on and off. and i had to go to school with it on that monday, that was really enjoyable.
but like i said, it isnt cauliflower, its just a big infected cut i hadnt been paying attention to because i didnt realize it was there. still not a good thing to have but the cauliflower scare will hopefully get me to wear my headgear all the time now. my drilling partner does and theres really no reason for me not too.
