I used to do this when I was, like, 15. If I wasn't messaged within, like, 10 minutes, I'd sign off and sign on again to make sure they noticed that I had gotten online.

actually i used to just sign on, and not even look to see who was on, and i would start doing something else and forget about it until someone imed me. (yes lazy) but i don't really use aim anymore

i do a little of both and i just don't talk to people for the sake of it i have to actually have something to talk about. otherwise the conversation gets full of lols and long periods of inactivity and when that happens i say something like i was getting a snack.
