I absolutely love that kind of match. The under dog steps up and fights the champ in a match, the underdog gives everything they have sending the champ reeling, lots of near falls, but ultimately the champ is just too much. Nobody does these matches as well as HHH. They really do lure you in and have you on the edge of your seat rooting for the under dog.

yep. what would be cool is if someone out of the blue (shelton, either hardy, etc) gets a title shot on a random raw and then wrestles a great match with the champ and when everyone thinks the champ will eventually win, the underdog actually wins the wwe title. now that is how to make the wwe unpredictable
Anyone remember HHH losing to the Brooklyn Brawler, which I THINK was in Madison Square Garden?

yea he was with the hardcore title being defended 24/7...i remember meeting him at the wwe restaurant in times square a long time ago (sad day when it closed down).

trips did a pretty solid run defending the title seemingly weekly during one of his earlier reigns (he was a heel). i remember there was a match vs taka michinoku that was a ton of fun. it was worked so well that you almost thought that maybe, just maybe, taka could sneak a pinfall in.

Like say ... Santino Marella? Maybe it's not such a good idea.

That was against Kurt Angle. It was the Raw after the ppv where Holly beat Regal for the european title. And yeah, Crash was WWAAAAAAAYYYYYY over when this match took place. That guy had it all except the size. if he was 8 inches taller, no doubt he'da been a main eventer, or atleast gotten a shot at it.

Yeah that was a phenomenal match. Perfect example of how this kind of match should go.
One of the reasons I loved WCW was towards the very end when Steiner was the heel champion and every Nitro a different midcard wrestler would get a title shot. They would look great taking Steiner to his limits and Steiner would look great beating them.

Anyone remember when Kurt Angle faced Essa Rios on Heat?
It's weird how I can remember something like that, but I forget things from a week ago. Wow strong memory.

that is probably one of the most memorable moments for me as a fan. i remember being so shocked and happy that jericho won and i immediately called my friend and we celebrated together on the phone...then after the commercial break, my hopes and dreams were shattered and i was so upset the next two days

yea i hate that bout the wwe the ref did cout 123 clear as day then some how hhh gets the belt gets the belt back without faceing y2j
i think if they whould have ran with it whould have made a great storyline as y2j being a babyface and hhh being a bitter heel

and another thing about that...hhh was scheduled the face the rock at the next ppv at the time so that would have made it even more shocking that jericho, who was fresh off a feud with chyna for the ic title, would come in and diss hhh and take his belt

anyone know why he commited suicide?
crash didn't commit suicide, he died when he choked on his own vomit, this was in 03.
can't imbed sorry. it's a 4-5 min vid on wwf confidential, showing the coverage of the hardcore title, with all the funny moments.
LOL nice vid. Crash Holly, 22 time Hardcore Champ, some great memories

Yeah it seemed like part of that patented WWE "push a new guy big then yank the rug out and see how he deals with it." Except they forgot to ever put the rug back...

I'm surprised so many people remember the HHH/Taka match, it was a good one.

WWF Champ HHH was forced into a 3 on 1 Elimination match, where he had to fight and eliminate Kaientai and the Brooklyn Brawler. Taka and Funaki fell to Pedigrees, and it looked like HHH would emerge unscathed. But Chris Jericho had other ideas. He ran in, took HHH out with a Lionsault, Brawler got the cover and, to the shock of many, pinned HHH. The sight of Brawler, celebrating with many of the locker room, is one not easily forgotten, as the man who had worked so long, so hard, got a moment in the sun.

I can't find anywhere saying it was in MSG though, I know Brawler had a big match in MSG, I'm pretty sure it was this one though.
So the Brooklyn Brawler pinned the WWF Champion, HHH.
