Irresponsible people with dangerous DOGS
Looking at the thread of where the guy set his dog on fire, Im thinking that is why idiots like that dont need dogs, let alone Pits
A few months ago I was in the park with my 3yr old daughter and as we were walking across the soccer field there was a young punk with a huge Pitbull.
As my daughter was running the dog just booked it across the field towards her.
I ran after my daughter and caught up with her stood her behind me and reached back and pulled out my Sig P220. As the dog was about 30 yards away I was ready to blow its fuking brains, but the owner was some young punk screaming at the dog
as the dog got to about 10 yards away and saw me pointing a gun at it, the dog just stopped there, and I stood my ground with my daughter behind me.
The owner run up to the dog and put a chain around his neck and said, hey man what are you doing with the gun, you were going to kill him
I said yes I was going to blow his fuking brains, and beat the fuk out of you. You are lucky my kid is here with me, Id beat your punk ass now. Next time keep that **** on a leash.
And I just took my daughter and walked off, to the playground a few feet away. The guy said, Im calling the cops cause you have a gun.
As I was playing with my kid about 30 mins later a cop showed up and was walking with the owner and the dog wasnt there.
The cop took a statement, checked my CWP making sure that I have a permit and said, I did not do anything wrong, and he said that he would have shot the dog if it came that close as it did to me and my kid.
So I want to say I see a lot of little punks and fake arse wannabe wigger gangsters with pitbulls,
First off that dog doesnt make you a bad arse gangster, but just an idiot whom does not even know what his dog is capable off.
Secondly if your dog bites someones kids arm off, you better be ready to be dealt with or be in jail with big bubba as his bitch.
Seriously the authorities need to fine people whom cant handle or train their dogs.

Most of the time it's the owners that cause bad situations involving dogs. Although dogs are domesticated, they instincly act out, and it is the owners responsibility to train, treat and handle their dogs appropriately, especiall in public. A dog should always be leased when in public, unless at a dog park.
I would have done the same thing as you.

Know how I know you're lying..
If pitbull was charging at you.. It wouldn't have stopped because you had a gun... It would have attacked anyway..
Ya see, dogs don't know what guns are.. and trained attack dogs, will go for your wrist, because they do know what guns are...
If a pit is attacking only two things will stop it.. Killing what it attacks or its owner using it's key word...
Dogs aren't dangerous by breed.. Dogs are dangerous because of the way they are raised...
You failed at this attempt to make yourself look cool and tough, and at making pitbulls look uncontrollable and dangerous..
kthxby

Well done, man.
I've been raising/breeding german shepherds all of my life, and there's nothing I hate more than an irresponsible dog owner.
Another thing I hate is people who are cruel to dogs even in the slightest ways. One of my first shepherds, Cowboy, had sand thrown in his face by a little girl when he was a puppy. Eventually, he attacked one of our female neighbors (I wouldn't consider it an attack, he jumped on her and was called off immediately and it didn't look like he was going to bite her), and thankfully we were close friends with them, but we had no choice but to put him into the K9 unit. Someone even came and checked him out, and they verified that it was definitely from a bad experience with a female. It was a shame too, one of the best dogs we'd ever had. I've definitely learned that while you can domesticate more dangerous breeds of dogs, they always have their instincts.

I'm not saying that I'm cool or tough..
I said you're lying.. Either the dog was trained, and it wouldn't have gone after your daughter, or it was untrained... and it wouldn't have stopped just because you had a gun and it saw.. or because it's owner was screaming.. an untrained aggressive dog would have attacked anyway...
I've owned several dogs in my life.. Some were pits... My mother spent quite a few years working for the Animal Control Center and I went on a few ride alongs with the officers... I know a "little" about dogs and their habits..

I know my dogs allways come back and stop running when I yell and scream for them
but I could be lying about that too RIGHT???

Exactly. How do you know the dog didn't mean well and stopped once it saw someone get in the way of the little girl he was running after? I didn't see anywhere where the OP said the dog was going to attack his daughter or that the dog bared its teeth and growled, for all he knew it could've been running over to lick her face. The point is that he didn't want to risk it because the owner was irresponsible and that type of dog could've killed his daughter in a matter of seconds if it wanted to.

Dogs don't just stop unless a command to stop is given.. If he was just screaming and whistling, the dog would have turned around and went back or kept going at you..
You said.. "as the dog got to about 10 yards away and saw me pointing a gun at it, the dog just stopped there, and I stood my ground with my daughter behind me."
Suggesting that the dog saw the gun and stopped... stood there and stared at you until its owner came along... Suggesting that the dog recognized the gun and realized what kind of trouble it was in...
You said it youself.. Your dogs always COME BACK when you yell and whistle..

Just wondering, how do you know the dog just didnt want to play or something? If the dog was bent on attacking, it would not have stopped in any case unless it was very well trained (which I doubt). And maybe the kid with the dog didnt see you guys and was alone at the park and let his dog off leash for training or something.
In any case, I say you did the right thing. The well being of your daughter is worth a billion times more than the life of a dog. (And I am a pit owner, so dont hate on me dog people)

I've had a few untrained dogs that would stop after we called their names and yelled stop (granted, they knew these commands). For the most part, they would stop for several seconds, and then they'd start coming back when we told them to.

Thanks bro
I dont know why the dog stopped, maybe he saw the gun, maybe he saw me, mabye the owner yelled stop, I wasnt really paying attention to the owner at that time.
I dont know, Im just telling you guys what happened, and I know when I tell my dogs to attack they attack, and when I say stop they stop.
But either way my dogs are on a leash and never out of my sight in public.

I'm not saying what he did was wrong.. and I don't want anyone to take it that way.. I have children, and I would have done the exact same thing... All I'm saying is the story doesn't make sense...

Hmmmm.. yes they do have brains.. but what you clearly fail to understand, is that dogs are incapable of cognitive thought... Meaning that the dog would not likely connect someone yelling it's name and whistling with stop in place, like a person who was about to walk out into the street in front of a moving car... That's not how it's brain works..
It thinks, oh, my name.. he must want me to come over.. because that's how the brains of and ANIMAL works...

Irresponsible people owning dogs are probably my biggest pet peeve (no pun intended).
I've been pursued down the street by miniature Poodles walking my dog and I stop, turn around, and make towards the dog with threatening body language and eye contact IF I can tell it's untrained and just out of control, sharp, and nervy. Fear biter type. If the dog doesn't move I will PUNT ITS ASS back into its own driveway.
If a trained dog goes after you, then you're pretty screwed. The best you can do is offer your arm I suppose.
People often get Pit Bulls because they want to look macho and tough and just raise the dog in all the wrong ways and people blame the dog when it mauls a kid. Like, um, where was the ****ing owner? Euthanize the lowlife owner if anything.
My take on the situation: Your kid running triggered the dog's prey drive, which is natural, but the owner should have known had he half a brain not to bring a dog to a park where kids are running around off leash. Not rocket science. When you turned on the dog with the gun, the dog read your body language and backed off from that, not so much the gun.
I don't care if you made the story up or not, I'm glad for the opportunity to bash stupid people anyways.
