quick oats vs. not so quick oats
is there a big difference between quick oats and regular oats? any negatives to the quick oats? just wondering because I don't have time to make oats before work/class so quick oats is what I decided to go with.

I don't think so, if the OP is talking about Quaker 1 Minute Oats then it's not simple carbs, the only difference between "Old Fashioned Rolled Oats" and "1-Minute Quick Oats" (both by Quaker, that come in the big tub) is that the "1-Minute Oats" have been pre-steamed so that they cook quicker.
If you're talking about the Oats that come in those single serving packets, then yes, those are packed with sugar. Regular 1 Minute Quick Rolled Oats have the same nutritional value as Quaker Rolled Oats, Steel Cut Oats, and Groats. The only difference between them is how long they take to cook and the texture (not counting the single serving packet oats packed with sugar)

I don't really notice the "quick oats" cooking any faster, 2 minutes cooks em the same for me. Might just be I'm overcooking the quick oats but oh well, 2 minutes is plenty quick for me. I'm talking about the big tubs.

1/2 cup of oats + 3/4 cup of water = 1.15 seconds

It's mainly the consistency that's different . . .
Old fashioned r fairly chunky, quick oats r less so, w/ a more pasty consistency when cooked.
Quick oats r rly just old fashioned oats chopped up finer so they take less time 2 cook. That's why the nutrition facts r practically identical.
In practice there's very little difference in total cooking time, when u figure getting the pot out, measuring the water, measuring the oats, bringing the water up 2 a boil, cooking the oats, eating the oats, washing & putting away the pot. When u add all that up & compare, the few seconds of cooking time u save w/ quick oats is insignificant.
So I'd say eat quick oats if u like the taste/consistency better, not b/c ur saving a lot of time, b/c ur not.
