So i'm buying a Siberian Husky.
I've always wanted one of these dogs. I like them cause they're friendly and playful and smart. I'm getting one for cheap for around $300, it's part of the AKC whatever that means. I never thought i'd actually have one, i always thought they would be around $1000. I'm picking it up on sunday, it's around 5-6weeks old. What should I expect? Any of you miscers have a husky?? im so excited..
What do I need... this is a list of what i'm thinking.
LIST-
Kennel- for traveling.
Toys - chew toys and other miscellaneous stuff to play with.
Dog food-puppy chow.
What else? Do I need to take the dog to get shots and stuff?

I've always wanted a Husky, my neighbor had one and they look awesome especially when they have differenet colored eyes. The only thing with Huskys is that they shed a lot.

Awesome dogs...nothing but good things to say about them. I have one, but it's mixed. You can hardly tell it's mixed besides it not having cool eyes. They shed alot, so I'd buy a comb to comb the dog and keep it looking nice.

I live in texas, it's pretty hot in the summer. But i have a real shady backyard, lots of trees. My parents had a husky when I was little, but it dug in the backyad alot. Is there any way to prevent that?

I had a malamute (like husky). It bit my brothers lip and he needed stitches.
That is all.
I bid you good day, sir.

Make sure you take it for plenty of walks...those dogs are bred for pulling, remember.

If it's around humans and little kids alot, it won't be aggressive right?/ I hope their not known to be aggressive. Is it a good family dog?

Well, its because the dog had a bone and my brother was teasing it and it barked and snapped at him. Don't EVER try to play with the dog if it has a "treat" or bone and it doesn't want to be bothered. It will feel threatened and think that you are trying to steal it. Normal animal instinct, they try to protect its food from being taken.

I read a review. The most common problem is that they get bored without enough excercise. Is running with it everyday enough excercise?? I don't need jump on it's back and ride it for some HIIT or anything right?>

Just run around outside and play ball and stuff. Keep it active while you are active. Dogs love to run and play and jump around.

lol no...a game of fetch or two will do it, along with the normal attention you should give a dog, and normal walks a couple times a week

My husky used to try to tackle me when he was younger. I would open the gate to my yard, next thing I know, I see a black and silver blur FLYING at me at full speed from all the way across the yard...... he'd coming running at me, slamming into my knees, knocking me over just about every single damn time. Major amusement huh? They are awesome dogs, but yeah, you need to keep them occupied and exercise them often.
The funniest thing is when they are laying down asleep as puppies...and then all at once, they will jump up, SPRINT around in a circle chasing their tail for like a minute, then calmly lay down and go back to sleep...like nothing just happened.

My neighbors had huskies and one malamute, I occasionally would dog-sit for them when they were out of town. Great animals, I'm not really a dog person, but I'd be up for owning one. The domestic ones can get pretty big though, so be careful. They love running at you.

Birds and cats are gonna die.....other dogs....not so much. Also, be careful if you ever take them camping. I took mine out to the lake, put him on a leash when I went to sleep at night, somehow he got out, I woke up to see him just as he jumped into the lake and swam out in pursuit of some ducks, way out on the water.

A couple times a year. Their fur does not leave a big mess normally...but when they are shedding, you need to brush like a mother.

Um........not the dogs..........probably not the cat if it adjusts to it, but I doubt it will ever see the bird as anything more than a tasty treat.

Advice on here is good so far. I feed my husky Nutram, seems to be better then most of the crappy dog food out there at the supermarket.
Basically,
-they need excersize
-fenced yard
-be kept on a leash when walking them
-attention
-crate training
Mine has been great, love her to death!
Here is a video of her

I've never had one, but I have an uncle who has had two (he had one for 15 years until it died, then got another one). Basically, both of them are/were very hyper, and need to play and exercise a hell of a lot, both of them are little dogs trapped in a big dog's body (in other words, they are playful and like to jump on you and stuff, not realizing that a 100+ lb dog jumping on you can hurt)
the worst thing about them though....... they SHED LIKE A MOFO. Honestly, my uncle's car, house, clothes, are all covered in dog fur. Its not like he doesn't try to clean it up, but they just shed like crazy. You pet the dog and you can see the hair falling off of it.
