Cashews...

So I was pretty hungry a minute ago and ate a package of cashews from the vending machine here at work. It is literally the only thing in there with any sort of redeeming nutritional characteristics.

So here is my question, this bag says this is the nutritional breakdown:

Calories...........160
Fat Calories......120
Total Fat..........14g
Sat Fat............2.5g
Protein.............5g
Carbohydrates...9g
Fiber................1g
Sugar...............1g

How is this posible? The calories from fat and carbohydrates already equal 162 calories, without considering the protein. I'm sure they rounded up and that would account for the difference. The real question is, what are the other 7g of carbohydrates made of? Will those spike insulin levels? Will this mess with my ketosis?

I am probably just being neurotic, but I am also bored and curious...

Thoughts?

Those other 7g are made by complex carbs and arent supposed to cause insuline spikes...Cashews are probably one of the worse nuts to eat for Keto, peanuts, almonds, and macademia are alot better

OK, cool. So I shouldn't have screwed myself. I wish they had almonds or walnuts in my vending machine... or filet mignon for that matter...

although some other nuts may be a little better your not getting much saturated fats there so your gettin good fats some omega three fatty acids and yes the remaining carbs are complex which means good carbs. Anywho the thing with the calories being off that is with a lot of stuff i guess it is because of rounding

They already gave you the fat Calories. Go by that for now.

120 Fat Calories (forget about the 14g of fat...that may have been rounded UP)

Then, subtract out the 1g of fiber...

That gives 13g of both Protein and Carb combined (each is 4Cal/g, so combining them makes this easier for me)

13 X 4 = 52

52+120 = 172 Cal...

****, I don't sea what they did there.

I think the moral of the story is that 1g of sugar and 7g of complex carbs is too much for a keto snack.

That and nutritional facts on labels can be misleading.
