Looks like Edge is out of Bash and action
From Meltzer's site:
Smackdown title curse strikes again
Edge has a torn pectoral muscle from taking a bad bump during the Mardi Gras angle on the Smackdown show that aired on Friday. He is out for an undetermined length of time, depending upon whether he goes in for surgery and just tries to have it heal from rehab. He was particularly bummed over the timing of the injury because the plan was a long reign as champion and top star on the brand.
The plan as of yesterday, which still could be changed today, was for a Battle Royal to determine the new champion. The winner of the Battle Royal will make their first title defense on Sunday's Great American Bash in San Jose.

Hmmm. I thought I read that it was just a bump and he'd be alright for the bash. If this is true, then Smackdown are seriously screwed for talent.

I was going to say that he can't compete for the title, but it's only for whilst Edge is champion. Still, doesn't he have a match with Khali?

Kane wins the battle royal and the championship and defends it against Mark Henry at the PPV.

How frail is he for christ sakes? Whenever he's about to be made into a main attraction he seemlingly gets hurt. And even besides that, he gets injured a lot.

I'd say it's the other way around. Mark Henry's the most over heel on Smackdown pretty much.
Or, if WWE was smart, they'd go back to the whole Edge/Kennedy feud they could have done, which would be GOLD, and have Kennedy jump over and win the belt. That sets up a feud with Edge when he returns.

Has Mark been on SD! lately? Haven't seen him in a while. And yeah, why not Mizark? He deserves it. You could do a lot with him in terms of feuds, with his history with Kane and Mysterio.

Top choices as of now are Mark Henry, Batista, and Matt Hardy. Rey Mysterio is another name being thrown around as per wrestlezone.com.

Am I missing something here? kane has been with the company for 10 years, and as far as I know, has always been a good employee. He is a good worker, and they gave him 1 title reign, that lasted less than a day? If they can't give him the title now, I would really feel bad for him.

Yeah, I'm a Hardy mark, but that would suck, no chance of him being able to carry the show. He hasn't talked in like 3 months, LOL.

Kane has been jobbed out so many times though just in the past year alone to Umaga, Khali, and Henry that he really is a weak choice in my opinion.
The WHC is really cursed man, how many times has it been dropped now cause of injury in like the past year? 3 times I believe. Batista, Taker, now Edge. And Kennedy was gonna win it until he got hurt.
This really sucks though, I love Edge he is my 2nd favorite guy on the roster and he was having a great reign. Really unfortunate once again.
Oh and can anyone say...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! MAKE IT 17 FOR NAITCH!!!

Sucks that Edge got hurt, it's crazy that three people have lost world title opportunities or runs because of injuries over the past few months (Undertaker, Kennedy, and now Edge), plus SD has had it's share of injuries that have disrupted World Title plans in the past. IIRC JBL and Mark Henry were both candidates for World Title runs in the past and both got hurt.
I really, REALLY hope Batista doesn't win the belt back. I would take Hardy or even Mark Henry... God anyone DIFFERENT for a change. Kane winning it would be pretty sweet; he's LONG overdue for another, better title run.

GIVE KANE THE TITLE.
I'm sure all these injuries are god's way of trying to get the title on the poor guy :P
and wouldn't it make sense to have a wc battle royal AT the pay per view?
You are guarenteed a title change and it will have people intrigued.

Just when the Great American Bash card couldn't look much worse, this happens. Guess there goes the reason to watch Smackdown! too.
(I bet they're thinking twice about sending all that talent to Raw now, aren't they?)

Here are my choices in this order:
1. MVP: US and World Champ to further to MVP gimmick
2. Matt Hardy: I'm just a big Hardy fan. I drink the JBL kool-aid
3. Flair: Because 17 is sweeter than 16
4. Finlay: Big Finlay fan
5. Kane: Not a big fan, but he deserves it
Of course, if they're going to do an open invitational Rumble to determine the next champ...it could be anyone from RAW or ECW as well. With that being said, I wouldn't mind CM Punk from ECW or Mr. Kennedy from RAW.
However logically, it would make the most sense to give the World Title to Kane since he was booked as the No. 1 contender. It'd be a real insult to take him entirely out of the equation.
Of course, the biggest shock would be the return of Chris Jericho. Or bigger yet, John Cena winning BOTH titles. That'd be sick, even though we all hate John Cena. Could you imagine him walking around with both titles?
