Sergio was great and is one of the best of all time, but as far as a physique that I would like to acheive, Arnold's was the most appealing to most people. It is true that his legs were never that developed, but his chest in my opinion is unmatched. He also had great arms and a tiny waist. Arnold's physique is ideal for many people and what they would like to look like. It is true that Sergio was great, but I personally never liked the look of his physique.

If Arnold and Sergio competed with today's judges, Sergio would win hands down because he doesn't have as many weaknesses as Arnold. But, given the time period, Arnold had the better physique by their standards (more standout bodyparts)

Like you said for their time period, Arnold wins.

I would say that Sergio's waist was at least 2 inches smaller than that of arnolds and his arms were bigger.
I personally believe the better physique meant :
1. someone raised and bred by Wielder, who Sergio was not
2. White
3. was acceptable to a late 60s public
even wielder admitted that putting someone like arnold on the covers of magazines would sell more issues than sergio. its all politics, just like lee priest said

sergio had a better physique hands down, but he didnt have starpower. joe weider said himself that having arnold as mr olympia would sell more magazines, so go figure. but sergio didnt really have any weaknesses. great v taper, fully developed bodyparts, near flawless symmetry. if anyone can argue sergios weaknesses, its his lack of thigh seperation.

Conditioning was more highly regarded back then than it is now. Arnold had better conditioning than Sergio. Their size was about equal. Hence Arnold won.

I agree that Oliva should be talked about more in the sport, but don't put down Arnold in doing so. Arnold was the better BBer IMO. Arnold had a much better chest, abs, and bicep peaks. Although Arnold legs were smaller than Oliva's, there was more seperation in Arnold's.
There is a website (the name escapes me) that has pictures from past Mr.Olympia's. If you look at the pics of the 2 of them on the same stage, Arnold is superior. I respect the hell out of Oliva, so don't paint me as an Oliva hater. I just think we can honor him without dissing Arnold.

i think it's ironage.us that has the pics.
And to the guy with the goofy username who's trying to make this a racial issue...suck balls kids, suck balls.
Both are great, but Arnold did far more for the bodybuilding world than sergio ever could.

the reason no one remembers sergio is because he wouldnt have made as good a champion as arnold did since he wasnt as flamboyant as arnold..thats why they call him sergio "the myth" olivia

IMO, Sergio is among the greatest of all time. He is definitely over and above Arnold, as far as competing. However, Arnold did more for the sport of BBing. So, I give him much respect for that.

that's why they called him the "myth"???? this is plain dumb!
the "myth" title has to do with his otherworldy genetics and shape.
Genetically Sergio is the greatest of all time. a 240lb man with a 28 inch waist, a V- taper unmatched. someone said that he didn't have standout parts or that arnold had more, i beg to differ. sergio had better balance. i give arnold the conditioning part but sergio's arms were better by far. arnold had no forearms to talk about. yes he had great biceps but they clearly overpowered his triceps and still they were smaller than sergio's. for the younger heads on this board, ask the older heads what was the crowd's reaction to arnold beating sergio at the 1970 Mr. Olympia. In fact, ask Joe weider to tell you how the crowd had to be pacified after they screamed bloody robbery.
However, Arnold had far more charisma, and lets face it, in those times a black Cuban couldn't possibly sell magazines in America. today sure , now that we are more culturally and racially tolerant but back then??? never happen. I respect Arnold greatly, especially what he has done for the irongame even after he retired, but i am not and never will be a member of his dick riders club. His star power doesn't sway me one bit.

Wow you know.. Sergio has got to have one of the most amazing bodies I've yet to see in my short time in the world of BodyBuilding. This is the first time I have ever heard the name or seen a picture.
gjoe.. I would completelly agree with your assesment of the political standpoints of why such a man would not get the response deserved.

haney and coleman wer'nt/are'nt as flamboyant as arnold, but they're champions of their time periods with as many or more wins than arnold and piss all over him in the physique department. and from a competitive bodybuilding perspective, sergio had far less weaknesses and was better overall than arnold. who cares whos the better personality? its whos got the best body with the fewest weaknesses on stage. arnold had some gaping flaws in his physique that sergio did not have eg. legs. ****, jay cutler has the personality of a salad bar - doesnt make him any less impressive..

Are u retarded..or just plain ignorant? Arnolds arms were almost as big as Ronnie Coleman's..Ronnie has 23 inch arms and Arnold had 22 inches..What are u talking about "Arnold had no lats??!!" The man's chest circumference was like 56 inches!!!!
Before you talk shi* about Arnie look at www.bodybuilders.com and check out Arnie's stats

Guys i am staying out of this one because its too easy and also because Bobcat and I have a well chronicled history. However, I do believe that Arthur Jones did the measurment of both Arnold and Sergio and showed that Sergio's arms were 21.5 and arnold's were barely 20. However, i wasn't in the room when Arthur conducted the measurement so i can't say whether he was lying or not.

Arnold never had the best legs but I still feel that they were better than Oliva's in 70 and 71. A lot of people were blown away at the olympia in 70 when they saw how much Arnold had improved. Oliva's arms and shoulders are bigger and his waist smaller but they are not as conditioned or proportionate. Oliva definately had the best V taper in history but I always thought that Oliva's proportions were a little off. Both of his arms had a little bit of a different shape to them. Nothing Valentino, but they were off.

How tall was Oliva, and how much did he weigh during contest on average? He looks quite a bit shorter than Arnold which would place him probably around 5'8" or so.
