Quit Eating Junk food and Start Eating Healthy.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to check in and give an update on my progress. During the last week of May, I made a post stating I wanted to clean up my diet and cut out all the junk food that I was eating on a regular basis. During this time, my diet consisted of a lot of sugary foods, like snack cakes, ice cream, candy bars, donuts. The rest of my diet was made up of Sugary Cold Cereal and boxed meals like TV diners. I primarily drank a lot of Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke.

My main concern was a sugar addiction, with this in mind I decided to try a ?quit date? the same way some smokers will try quitting by picking a date and never smoking again. My quit date was the day after Memorial Day (May 29th) I received a lot of concern about being able to completely change my diet cold turkey like that, instead of trying to phase into a new diet, by quitting sodas one week, than candy the next, and so on. I don?t know exactly why, but I really thought I would be better off quitting everything all at once.

So it?s been over a month now, and I have to say that for me, this method seems to be working very well. Since memorial day, I have not had any soda, any ice cream, any fast food, any snack cakes, any sugary cereals, or any donuts. I haven?t had more than one piece of candy in any day, One piece was a cinnamon jolly rancher, and the rest were Hershey Dark Chocolate kisses, because they say dark chocolate is good for you.

Right now, I?m eating much more healthy than I ever dreamed I ever would. Lots of meat, more natural foods, more whole grain foods, lots of fish, TONS of fruit, more veggies than before, but still not enough. I think the success that I have had so far can be attributed to more of a change in mind sets that Lead to a change in diet, and not just a change in diet. Using this forum, and just seeking out other information online, I have learned a lot about how horrible a lot of the foods I use to eat really are. I no longer look at them as just tasting good, really they are just dangerously unhealthy.

The results of the diet change in the past month have been really profound on me. Even though I haven?t gained the muscle mass I?m looking to gain yet, I have toned up a good bit. I was starting to build up some intra-abdominal fat and get a little gut going on. That is almost completely gone now. So I?ve maintained my body weight, but am happier with my tone.

The biggest difference though is my energy level, and my just over all feelings. I use to super lazy ALL THE TIME, and I just muddled through life, thinking that was normal. Since changing my diet, I have so much more energy and don?t feel so run down all the time anymore. I use to come home from my desk job and sit on the couch and watch TV or something. If my wife wanted to do something, I would constantly tell her that I?m tired and I needed time to chill out. Which of course she never understood, and thought I was a lazy bastard. But I was seriously feeling so Run Down, Satan himself couldn?t tempt me off of that couch.

Now it?s completely different, I do my work outs and take Aikido After work, then I come home feeling great and I?m able to get some things around the house done. I cleaned the gutters yesterday after Aikido. Stuff like that use to always have to wait until my day!

The end results have been so Positive on me, it?s amazing. My wife is amazed, my marriage is even better than it was (and it was great), I?m getting so much more done that I want/need to get done. And I feel at least 500% better than I ever use to, all the time. It?s fantastic.

So I wanted to encourage anyone else who might be going through the same problems to go ahead and try the quit date method. I found it very nice, because it gives you a goal, and it give you a time to plan out new meals and eating habits. If give you one day to clean out the fridge and cabinets, I threw away so much junk food. And if you follow it up with just learning about eating healthy and learning how unhealthy bad foods can be, you can change your mindset. Once you flush all the garbage out of your body, just feeling alive again will be enough to keep you going!

Best Wishes to everyone out there!
