How was your first day at Gym?
Hi,
Though it would be interesting to share how everyones first experience in the gym was (Proper Weight Training not Running on a Treadmill )
I have been training at home for 3 Months, I am going to join a gym tommorow, a bit nervous since I will be going alone and have never trained in a Health Club type gym.
Anyone else here start training seriously alone?

just got off a bone contussion on my left wristand dropped 185 on myself infront of my basketball team... i was out for another week because of that.
First time lifting at big commercial gym... no remorse. I totally didnt know they didnt have towels so i kept having to get paper towels for sweat. kind of annoying.

I started training with a buddy, but he went to the gym before me. Anyways, my first day I was nervous just cause I didn't know what machines did back then, and I didn't want to look like an idiot. But don't even worry, it's a first time exerience for everyone. Also, it might look like people are judging you by staring at you, haha, but don't worry about it, people's eyes wander all the time in the gym.

I've been doing light weights at home and just started workout at a gym yesterday (Last time I was just scouting out the facilities) if you are serious about bodybuilding/gaining strength and you listen to stuff people say on here you will look like a pro amoung amateurs. I'm 15 I'm small compared to the guys on here but I just started and I goto the gym and there was like 1 other guy doing deadlifts and squats and he was way bigger than me and not lifter much more So I felt great

I prefer my workout buddy way better. He's one of my best friends and we talk sometimes but mostly he's just always pushing me in the gym and spotting me.

yeah i guess it would be fine if the person was as motivated as me but they never are. All they ever want to do is chat up a storm or act stupid while im trying to focus.
I just find that no matter what the intensity just isnt the same when i have a partner as to when I am in my own world and lifting by myself

You just haven't found the right partner, one of my best friends at my other gym who just moved to my gym now, always worked for played hockey and had hardly any time for the gym. So when he did go to the gym he was doing random exercises each time, just to pass time.
Now, my new partner, who is also one of my good bros, is serious about bodybuilding. We both have set diets and both follow it. Also, our training routine is the exact same as our goals are the same. It's great!

That's the ideal for having a gym partner. I hope to find someone like that at university this September, I had a great gym partner at college last year but we both changed schools and cities. I've got a gym buddy for the summer but he's not really as serious, kind of a bar-body (just works out what he thinks women look at -- he was asking me to spot his curls in between my squats yesterday) but it's better than nothing.
My first time at the gym doing lifting, I was self-conscious and didn't really know what to do so I started experimenting on the machines and stuff (was waaaaay too scared to touch the freeweights! :P.) I'd never really looked up much info on it, all I knew was that I wanted to get rid of the freshman 15 so I started looking around at what other people were doing and started to do stuff like that.
My first time at the gym here was weeeeeird, there's a few people from my old HS and elementary school that go there. It was the first time I transitioned to a *new* gym so I didn't know what to expect, but it's a lot better. Less busy -- the one at my college was serving an entire campus in Toronto, this one is serving a small town. There's few enough people that while I don't know everybody by name -- mostly because the gym isn't social time for me, it's work time -- I recognize everyone in there when I go and "new" people stand out like a sore thumb to me now.
Honestly, a lot of guys are self-conscious about going to the gym. My brother is a few inches taller than me and he's a pretty big guy (not in shape) and gets self-conscious about that stuff, but he won't listen to me when I tell him nobody cares. Hell, when I see a dude that's pretty big (eg, fat) on the treadmill or puffing his way through some benching, I'm more inclined to think "Good for him," because there are tons of people out there who don't have anywhere near the willpower to actually get off their ass and change their situation.

I used to lift weights with the football team, but my first time getting a membership at the gym I was there just to sign everything and leave and they said I can get my free trainer session today with an ex ravens player so I jumped to it even though I was in jeans and t-shirt. After working out I ended up falling down because my blood sugar was low since I didn't eat breakfast but I wanted to train w/ that guy so I told them I did eat, bad choice. I drank some gatorade ate one of those bars then left. Never again have I not ate breakfast, plus I go to the gym in the evenings now.

Awesome replies so far guys.
I just came back from checking the gym out, its pretty cool, I did feel a bit intimidated looking at some of the "huge" guys, but I think that is something that will motivate me further.
Tommorow will be my first proper workout outside of my home gym, really looking forward to it.
