"I need the carbs."
Since I'm sure I'm not the only one here who does this, I want to hear what you all do...I don't want to be alone with my vices today!
My favorite excuse for my favorite vice (decafgrandeskimnowhipmocha, sometimes with a shot of orange or raspberry) is that "I need the carbs." We'll finish up a long run and stop for a Starbucks on the way back because "I need the carbs." On a hot day, after a 20 mile bike ride, I'll drive through a Starbucks for an iceddecafgrandeskimnowhiporangemocha because (you guessed it) "I need the carbs." On a day when I'm off my spreadsheet and I know I'm going to come in low on calories, I'll stop towards the end of the day (there are five, count them FIVE, Starbucks within a half mile of our office...which is scary in and of itself) and get myself my fav drink because...."I need the carbs."
So, I wanna hear what everyone else uses as an excuse for their vice. I don't mean, "Oh, I smoke because I need the stress relief." I don't count cancer sticks in this situation. Sorry. Gimme food vices and excuses instead.
Let's hear 'em!
Cheers,
Athena

From all the different articles and such I've read in the last year or so i believe I can eat anything within the hour just after a good workout cause apparently my body will eat it up like crazy.
I plan my chocolate fests around this idea.

sometimes I allow myself a cheat so that I have a reason to hit the gym really hard for the next few days. I've got to put those carbs to work, haven't I?

I eat LOTS of salted peanuts right from the shell. I also feed them to the squirrels in my lawn and those little suckers can run UP trees, so don't tell me they aren't in shape.

I can't say for sure if you "need the carbs" or not but, based on your picture, they don't seem to be hurting you.
I also go for the excuse that because I just worked out I "need the carbs" to recover. I'll also eat or drink the occasional high-carb tid-bit knowing that I eat pretty good the rest of the time. Heck, If I ate four times the carbs I currently eat, I'd still be way ahead of the vast majority of people. I could probably eat as many carbs as I want considering how much I exercise. My metabolism burns that stuff like rocket fuel. Now, where did I hide those cookies...

I don't know if it's an excuse, but sound reasoning
I love stuffed french toast...stuffed with cream cheese, strawberries and banana's. I just say I work out, so I can eat it without feeling guilty.

every week i pick one day to cheat for a meal(doesnt matter which day but i keep it to only one day of the week) .....FOR EXAMPLE:
-today i am going to have lunch with my aunt, haven't seen her for a long time. i want to enjoy myself and just relax and not worry about one freaking meal. usually, the meals i cheat for are social occasions. (plus im trying to gain muscle anyways and today was my leg day so i dont worry too much about carbs)

I have to tell you I found your "one word" order for your espresso drink quite amusing. I used to get a grandenonfatnowhipcaramelmocha myself, but I've since moved away from the dairy and sugar in my coffee drink to just the sugarfreecaramelamericana.
My new vice, however, would be frozen yogurt. There's a new craze around here with the self-serve yogurt where you get to create your own concoction and mix it with your favorite toppings and pay for it by the ounce. I use the tart flavors along with some of the fruit flavors and add almost every fruit they offer (mango, strawberry, blueberry, kiwi, pineapple, etc.). My way of accepting it mentally is to convince myself that the active bacteria is good for digestion (so I've read), plus there's protein in yogurt and that the fruit is at least better than starchy carbs. I really need to stop going every time I get a chance to though.

Making sure I get my protein and vegetables while I cheat.
Pigskins are the protein and the veggie is in the bottle.

decafgrandeskimnowhipmocha
I think saying this may be more than enough to work off the carbs contained in the aforementioned drink.

It's all the serotonin the carbs release or inhibit the reuptake of. They are Nature's anti-depressants.
Maybe that's why "fat people are happy people"... it's all the carbs they eat!?

if I'm going on a strenuous hike 10+ miles with 3000ft+ elevation change for example, I'll have a big pasta dinner the night before, and toss a few energy bars or gels in the backpack because "I'll definitely need the carbs!" The dark ales consumed apres' hike or ski or whatever is just a celebration of another fine day

The only reason why I drink tequila is because it comes with lime juice and lime juice is good for you. Right?

When I go for a 25 mile run, "I need the carbs" is not only my mantra, but my obsession before, during, and after.
Knowing that when I get home, I can stuff as many pancakes down my maw as my stomach will hold gets me though those last 5 miles...

You are my hero.
Eventually, if my spine doesn't deteriorate too much over the next few years, I want to run the Athens Marathon, and then an ultra.

The Athens Marathon in Greece, or Ohio?
It really is not that hard - just takes the same dedication and patience as weight training.

Ummmmm....Greece. There is no other Athens (and I used to live in Georgia!).
Yes, patience, and hard work. But it's harder on my spine than most other activities. And still...I run...
