Fun in the sun at the Jersey Shore.
What a weekend! Probably the best one I've had in a long, long time.
I know today is Monday and I'm a day behind in ending my weekend, but I've been off work since Wednesday. Holiday and a few vacation days.
It started Saturday afternoon when I took a ride down to the beachfront to get some space and clear my head. I realized what I was missing... the sun, sand, water, people. Saw a couple of beach weddings and lots of people running, biking, walking.
I went back home and suggested we go back later that night to enjoy the boardwalk. Sunday morning I took the bike down there, I rode and my partner walked a bit. He's starting to build up his stamina on his doc's orders. I've been "encouraging" him (read "nagging"). I got an 8 mile ride by riding the beachfront a couple of times from one end to the other.
We went back last night. My sister-in-law and I wound up doing a cardio walk a little over 2 miles. This afternoon we all went back for more fun in the sun. No lying on the beach, but an almost 4 mile cardio walk. I ran about 5/10 of a mile. Not a contiguous half mile, but 3/10, walk, another 1/10, walk, then another 1/10. There are markers on the boardwalk every 1/10 mile. I haven't run outdoors in a long time, and it shows. In addition to riding, I may start training up again to run, using the markers on the boardwalk.
Back to work tomorrow.

Glad you enjoyed yourself mino. I have fond memories of Jersey. Staying at the Port-O-Call in Ocean City, brunch in Cape May, afternoons kicking sand at the elephant in Margate, cold beer in Avalon, & evenings in Atlantic City just after it started being renewed when the casinos were newly built. The freshest seafood this side of San Diego. And the ocean; the ever changing, never changing ocean. Life is good man.

Sounds like a great time.
I need to get out more myself. This lifestyle sometimes gets all-consuming!
Going to San Diego in a few weeks.

Glad to hear you had a great time. I still take my son to Point Pleasant every couple of years. Beautiful Place!

Great way to make the most of good weather. My partner and I love to go to Sandy Hook but just don't seem to make it down there often enough. We're going to the Virgin Islands for in a couple of days and I'm already thinking of how to stay in shape while there. Lots of swimming, I guess.

I grew up on the shore. Haven't been home in a few years. Great memories of Sandy Hook, Belmar, Pt. Pleasant and Seaside.

Answering reader mail
Well, today I'm a nice shade of reddish brown and my legs are stiff as boards. That's the price of having fun, I guess.

Well, it's taken me a couple of months to get up to 8 miles. I ride a mountain bike on the road because I like the beefiness of a mtb over a roadie. I used to do the 20 mile r/t from my house to the beach years ago. My goal is to do that again.

Don't forget Cape May and Wildwood! We haven't been to Cape May in about 4 years. We love it there. There is an Italian restaurant called Cucina Rosa on the corner of Washington and Perry St., at the end of the pedestrian mall. The servers trip all over themselves for you, and the food is superb.
Maybe a trip down there next month.

Enjoy it and make the most of it. When I take off now, I'm going to shed my worries and stress and just have fun.

Ohmigosh... Point Pleasant was where I spent my teenage summers. Every day on the beach and the boardwalk. I had two friends, fraternal twins who were two years younger than me. We saw each other at the beach for a couple of years running. Then I never saw them again, and often wonder what they've done in life.

Sandy Hook is really nice. The nature trails and areas are well-protected, and then of course you have Gunnison Beach. Yes, I dropped trou. My partner was too shy.

Gunnison Beach is the part we always visit when we go. We love it there. And you have to go bare: it feels awkward to have clothes on when everyone else around you doesn't. Nothing but sunglasses on and it feels great.

Yeah, but there are definitely some sights.
We went there almost every day during the summer of 1997 when I was out of work. We made a friend there that we still keep in touch with.

Niiiiiiiiiice, I love the beach. I hit the beaches in DE just about every weekend, from mid May through September (the best month, imo). Dewey Beach and Rehoboth. Like you said, OP, sand, sun, the water, people, the bars, restaurants, it's intoxicating for me. I NEED it! lol
Regarding the Jersey shore, well my Dad is from Cape May, and my Mom is from Wildwood, so you can guess where I spent every summer weekend/vacation growing up. And I have an ex GF from Point Pleasant Beach.

I may still be high from just that little weekend diversion (simple pleasures for a simple mind ), but I'm looking back and thinking how I've hated summer in the past few years.
Now I realize it's because I wasn't doing what I like to do... and that's kicking back and enjoying the resource we have here. Some people are for the mountains and woods, others are for the beaches and shore resorts. We're all about the shore.
*Ahhh* Summer and the livin's easy.

It's good to read that you feel better Minotaur. I have to wonder that since you say you feel alot better after being out in the sun that you may be low in Vitamin D. The sun gives us D naturally and helps us to feel better mentally.
However many don't get enough sun to raise their level of D.
D has been in the health news lately because they are finding that we need more than was thought and it's also important for cancer prevention, calcium absorption and mental health. Probably more but I can't recall all. This may be something you want to look into, if you haven't already. D can be toxic so it's best to take high doses under a DR's care.
Best wishes,
Kmax
I like to go a little further south to Ocean City for my D (sun)

That's a good point about Vit. D and Ol' Sol. I was working outdoors pretty much all Memorial Day weekend, and even though it was tiring (digging, gardening, mulching, hauling patio furniture) I felt great.
Everyone talks about Ocean City, and goes there but me! Never been there and I hear it's beautiful.

Good times to be had at the beach. I'm counting the days till the 21st, then we head for a week at a beach side condo.
