O/T - TV programs you watched as a kid
Lock up your weights guys…and take a trip to memory lane. What programs do you remember watching as a kid? My combination is pretty weird. My dad was an ex pat who worked in for an Oil company in Nigeria in the 70’s. Growing up there and in the UK made me experience a blend of British, American and Australian programs.
Here are some of the ones i fondly remember.
Gentle bear, Skippy, Land of the lost, The Rovers, The Brady bunch,
The kids from C.a.p.p.e.r.s, Gigantor, Big foot and wild boy, Big blue Marble, Huckleberry Finn and friends, Mr. Piper, Space 1999, Bonanza, Flip Wilson show, The love boat, Kids from 47a, The banana splits, Space Ghost, Bird Man, Touché Turtle, Secret Squirrel, The Alvin show, Man from Atlantis, Fantasy Island, Mission Impossible, Sanford and Son, The mod squad, The Partridge family, Good times. Thunderbirds.. e.t.c
I think I’d stop here…..

Now I am feeling old. I remember "before TV". hahahaha
Ok,
Amos and Andy
The Green Hornet
The Screaching Door
Arthur Godfrey
All radio shows. It was in the corner of the living room, a cabinet about 4 feet tall and it had this errie green light on the big round dial. (The cool thing was it also got short wave.) And yep, we turned the lights down low and everyone watched the errie green light on the radio.

I always get, i dream of Jeanie and BeWichted muddled up... even know i still cant tell which is which. I know i prefered the one in which the step mom always cast spells on the husband of whats her name... Hey no one said the Phil Silvers Show... or was Sgt Bilko too wacky for kids? I'm thinking of getting his DVD collection. I just bought the entire collection of the twilight zone and Hitchcocks movies.

DO you think kids of today could live without. TV, Computers, Video games and Cell phones? I would'nt trade the past for what kids have now. Just wondering if kids would be seen dead playing board games like Snake and ladders or even monopoly.
By the way..is Green Hornet the program with Bruce lee?

Hey, what about Speed Racer? My brother and I used to make fun of them making those crazy sigh noises - but great fun.
Yeah Hibby, Johnny Quest was great.
Anybody mention the Jetsons or Fat Albert?
Carol Burnett was great, just hilarious. Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Laugh-In was the bomb, 6 Million Dollar Man.
How about Ben? Gosh I loved that bear

How about "Gilligan's island"? That was one of my favorites.
I remember "Lost in Space" was my favorite when I was about 8.
I also liked Gigantor. I was on a business trip to japan and I
went into this guy's office and he had hundreds of Gigantor toys,
of all different sizes. It was the first time I had seen Gigantor in
about 35 years!
Kids really depend on TV and computers these days. It's really done
alot to hurt the physical condition of today's kids.

I did mention bonanza in my list ... Any of them still alive? i know Michael Landon was the biggest star. I think John Green was also successful... i do recall him hosting a wildlife program.. or maybe i'm just imagining it.
I also remember the Big valley... but very little of it. The one thing i wont forget is the theme song.

Wow Gigantor! I'm begining to think some of the cartoons i watch like Gigatnor and Speed Racer were originally Japanesse cartoons. I assume I'm correcting in saying you can tell a japanesse cartoon characters from the big sparkling eyes.
I think computers should take more of a blame than TV and also the games, my friends son easily does 14 hours a day locked up in his room trying to crack a game.

How about The Adventures of Superman, The Three Stooges and Little Rascals re-runs. Couldn't wait to get home after school to watch those. And of course, Speed Racer. I just picked up a DVD of 11 Speed Racer episodes.

The only original member of Bonanza still alive is Pernell Roberts (Adam). I believe Lorne Green did host a wildlife program, but I remember him on Battlestar Galactica which ran in the early '80s.
Hoss (Dan Blocker) was my favorite, and when he died that was the death knell for the show. They brought back Candy (David Canary) after Blocker's death, but the show only lasted one more season. I don't remember his exact cause of death, but I have to think it had something to do with his weight.
Too many good men die overweight - John Candy, Chris Farley, too many others.

This is too good to pass up
I spent some of my formative years in Europe (Dad was AF), back then we only got AFN (Armed Forces Network) so our choices were slim and if the war (Viet Nam) or the President was on there was no TV that night.
Here's some of my favs:
Comedies:
-Laugh In
-Carol Burnett
-All in the Family
-I Love Lucy
Westerns:
-Wild Wild West
-Rifleman
-Bonanza
-Gun Smoke
Sci Fi:
-Star Trek
-Twilight Zone
-Lost in Space
Cartoons:
-Loony Tunes
-Speed Racer
-Johnny Quest
I remember vividly when my Dad finally broke down and got cable TV; thought it was the most amazing thing ever. He paid the big bucks to get the remote control version (box with a slider on it to change the channels with about 25' of cord). Of course #1 son was still the TV remote..."Hey Boy, turn the volume up...and while you're up...get me another beer."
Thanks for this thread, my Dad passed away two years ago next month and I haven't thought about those things we did in Germany for probably 20 years.
