Uncle died of lung cancer (serious)
At age 57. It was expected and not a sudden death so we've been braced for it.
I'm more worried about my grandma (mothers should never have to bury their sons), aunt, cousin and second cousin.
He was also over 300 lbs, had a heart attack and a quadruple bypass. He smoked 3 packs a day so it was not a shock to me when we found out he had lung cancer. He'd probably be the first to tell you that he didn't take care of himself.
I don't understand why people don't take better care of themselves. I haven't worked out consistently in awhile but I walk a lot and can't wait to start working out consistently again cuz it's driving me nuts that I'm not.
It just bugs me that he has to leave behind a 31 year old daughter, 12 year old granddaughter and 2 year old grandson, not to mention his wife, mom and brothers (he was one of 5). I wish he took better care of himself, and you can bet that's motivation to me.
It didn't have to be this way, and that's probably the worst part of it all.

That's horrible.
I hope your family is supportive enough to look out for those he left behind.
edit: hope you can deal with this all right. Good luck.

Thanks, and yes we are. We're one of those close old school Italian families who usually eats pasta at my grandma's house on Sundays.
I'm ok with it, like I said, I'm more worried about my grandma and aunt and cousins.

Well that's good, dude. The power of a family's love shouldn't be underestimated... with that kind of bond I'm sure your family will be fine through this tragedy.

That sucks. Learn from his mistakes though. I have never tried a smoke, and I never will.

Guys, you should stop to always blame the smokers. I know people who smokes 3-5 cigs a day, who train and are in better shape than some fat guys who eat crap everyday and drink a lot of alcohol.
There's more people who die everyday because they are obese, eat too much crap or are alcoholic.

Hang in there buddy, I hope your family bands together in this time of need.
While cigs don't ensure death, they don't help. No one should smoke...no one. It's an addictive, expensive habit which can potentially lead to a mess of health problems. There are too many ways on this planet to die, I don't need to add to them.

Sorry for your loss...
My father was a smoker who didn't exercise very much, and he died of a heart attack at 47...
I smoked for 16-17 years, and knew this would be my fate if I didn't start taking better care of myself... you always have to pay the piper...
but it's true,,, genetic play an important role as well. Some people who never smoke get lung cancer, other's can smoke their entire life and never get it... not a risk I'm willing to take (anymore).

Same here. My mom was on the pill and she used to smoke a pack per day. She was also only 17 years older than me and she died at 39 in 1999....

Damn man that really sucks
That reminds me of my uncle, he does heroin/drinks a bottle of whiskey and smokes 2-3 packs a day. He's only 40 but at this rate he isn't going to live very long. I'm glad I quit smoking

How's this for a story?
Today started my second cousin (his granddaughter)'s tournament, and in her first at bat on the first pitch she hits a home run. She went on to have her best game.
She hadn't hit a home run all year.
And to top it all off, the pitcher pitched a no-hitter.
