MORE Russian War Crimes? say it isnt so!
An underground prison containing hundreds of bodies has been discovered in Afghanistan.
The prison, a former military barracks on the outskirts of the capital, Kabul, dates from the Soviet occupation of the 1980s, officials say.
A senior police officer in Kabul says that many of the bodies were found blindfolded with arms tied.
The find was revealed by a 70-year-old Afghan who worked for the Russians and only recently returned to the country.
There has been no immediate response from Russia to the news of the find.
Army base
"This is a big mass grave from the Russian days," police chief Gen Ali Shah Paktiwal told the BBC, adding that there were hundreds of dead bodies inside.
He said the base, on the northern outskirts of Kabul, belonged to the communist defence ministry.
"There are at least 15 rooms full of dead bodies," he said, adding that as the base was large there could be further rooms yet to be discovered underground.
Many of the victims' remains were found with rope or cloth around their eyes and hands, suggesting they had been blindfolded and bound.
The old man who led police to the site of the grave is reported to have told police that he had seen people killed by firing squad at the barracks.
The underground prison is the second Soviet-era mass grave to be found near the capital.
In 2006, a grave was discovered by Nato-led forces near the capital's notorious Pul-e-Charkhi prison.

This should please President Vladimir Putin no? I'm sure he was well aware of the fact all along, being from the background that he is. Just another glimpse of the enlightenment and general good will that the ex-Soviet Union spread around the world in their hay-day! They weren't all that bad were they?

Just the lesser. You would have to be completely crazy to think that the US have never committed war crimes.

No, why would I? I highly condemn such crimes. It would be stupid to believe the USA didn't commit anything like this, though. Think " My Lai Massacre".

In the eyes of many members on this forum, when US committed a war crime it's usually "individual action." But when another country committed a war crime, it's usually the fault of that entire nation.

What is anyone going to do about it? Nothing. Europe needs Russian gas too much, they have more nukes than god, so nothing is going to be done. Why should it? All the other major powers have done bad things too.

Yes, I agree, I'm very happy to see people on these boards who are critical not only to the opposite side but to their country as well. Serious crimes have been committed in the cold war era, on both sides, I must add. Many nations have suffered under the Russians (for example Estonians, Latvians, Czechs, ...) and many nations have suffered under USA (Chile, Greece, most of Latin American countries, ..). We should never forget about crimes that happened regardless of the country behind them, but we should also learn to face it in a bit more mature manner, not by accepting "our" country as a savior and by declaring the rest of the world terrorists.

There is something you brain dead types fail to realize with your America bashing. The US government doesn't condone things like mass graves due to mass murder and we arrest and convict those who are responsible for it as opposed to openly supporting it.

I'm not bashing USA, surely you've spotted that. But do you want to talk about mass murder and the US government? Which military regime would you prefer to talk about? Pinochet's Chile? Don't take it personally.

Why do you people bring up things that happened in Vietnam. We could go days bringing up examples of the Soviet attrocities as well. You're point does nothing but try to demonize America, soooooooooo typical

And surely you know when the Afghan war took place? So why bash Russia?
My point is both sides did some horrible things. BOTH. We could go and argue for 2 weeks, what soldiers in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, ..., died for, but that's useless now. Get over it.

"War Crimes" is a new concept and just recently has been an actual thing to be considered during war time. Pointing out what happened in Vietnam, etc isn't a good analogy as the concept has changed a lot since then. Also, even in Vietnam, people were charged when committing a war crime. Once again, that would show that the US government is opposed to it.
It's AMAZING how we can be compared to the Soviet Union........it seriously blows my mind.

Because unlike bringing up stuff that was known decades ago, they are unearthing Russian massacres recently. It's called news buddy. How retarded would it be if we reported news that Americans massacred a village in Slovenia and then I was like well, Slovenians aren't innocent, 40 years ago they did a similar thing! You're the one bringing up all this anti-USA crap into the boards, even though it has no relevancy to the post and then cry foul when people say you're anti-american

They are recently (As in this year, retard) finding out about the Russian Massacres, what happened in Vietnam has been known for years, because unlike The Soviet Union communists, apparently the American troops aren't so cool about murdering people.

Yeah, the Soviets were barbarians, right, slaughtering everybody in their way? I guess "approximately 300 tons of bombs dropped for every man, woman and child living in Vietnam" makes you the good ones?
edit: I misread "recent" and I stand corrected.

I'm just replying, US Ranger, it's funny to notice who the first person to go O/T was... I didn't want to reply to your statement about "war crime" being a "..new concept new concept and just recently has been an actual thing to be considered during war time.."
If I did post something irrelevant, I apologize to the mods. If I didn't, there's no need for you to attack everyone that sees the both sides to the story. Reading my first post, you'll surely agree I'm NOT bashing USA.

Are you really that dull that you don't see how posting something the US had done in vietnam is totally unrelated to developing details of what the Russians had kept secret about in Afghanistan? I know it must be the Eastern European in you that needs to jump up and fight for the motherland, but bringing up a massacre which has been tirelessly looked at judicially has no connection to what the Soviets did to the afghans. How is it seeing both sides to the story? The americans aren't part of this story, did you even read it you moron? If everytime someone posted something about America and I posted that the communist Chinese government committed massacres, what would you infer? fool

Does anyone here have a clue as to what the Japanese did to the Chinese during WW2?? Holy ****. Brutal is not even the word. Atrocities are committed in every prolonged war. That's just a fact. Not defending the Russians by any means.

I think you're the one who keep on generalizing because of your hatred to that particular member. I for one can't see any anti-American bashing by Matt. If anything, being critical and admitting that your country have some serious faults makes a true patriot.
I also hate how everyone jumps on the "Anti-American" bashing when someone posts something negative about the US. Let's not forget that the US has committed some serious war crimes in the past with the near extermination of the Native Americans. But whatever, keep on believing that the US is the light keeper of civilization, the ancient Romans certainly did.

Um, notice the thread title and notice the thread hijack by your butt buddy that you're defending.
If you make a thread about how you like unicorns and I jump in and start talking about the proper way to grow and pick grapes, it would mean that :
A) I have mental problems
or
B) I have some sort of agenda with grapes
Do you understand now? Matty does a good job of making every thread turn out to be anti-American even though America has nothing to do, WHATSOEVER, with the topic. Then, after all is said and done, his butt buddies (you) jump all over anyone who disagrees with him and calls him out on it. Learn to read.

Very mature with the personal attacks there. I didn't even read posts by Matt until this thread, so I don't know his thoughts. But from this thread, there are no none to which you speak off. In fact, you guys are jumping all over him with only him mentioning the My Lai massacre in a different context.

I didn't see some of his edits.
Also, most of the internet tension flows from other threads as well.
Also again, even bringing up Vietnam wasn't needed as this was a thread about the Soviets. It's a constant problem in this forum as America is the number 1 target of criticism since we're the number 1 world power.

OK, Ranger, let's make this straight: I HIGHLY condemn all Soviet and for that matter all countries' war crimes. I was NOT attacking USA and if it looked that way, sorry, it wasn't meant like that.
I'll give you an example of what I stand for: During WW2, my country had been occupied by the Germans. There was a part of our population that actively fought against the Germans (coincidentally, they were later known as "the reds") and a part of the population that collaborated with the Germans, committing all kinds of crimes against the partisans. With the help of the Soviets, we got rid of the Germans in our country (absolutely no Soviets stayed in my country). After the war, huge retaliation began against "the whites", the ones who collaborated with the Germans. All the traitors had been shot and many innocent people died along. Even though my whole family fought "on the right side" during WW2, we highly condemn all the killings that took place after it, even though many of my family members have been killed by the Germans because of "the whites". So I HIGHLY condemn all atrocities during and after a war. DO NOT flame me and accuse me of bashing USA. I'm being critical to all countries, including the Soviet Union and including mine. Everything I said, it was meant to prove that. But if you still see me bashing USA after everything, I cannot help you.

What don't you idiots understand. Nobody claimed America has been perfect in the past, yet the historian matt and the retard concept come in with the LAWLZ U GUYZ ATTAKED INDIANS SO UR NOT INNOCENT way of thinking. That has no relevancy to the recent ****NEWS**** of what the Soviets had done to the Afghans. If you can't see how making generalized slanderous posts about a country would be offensive or seen as anti-that country, you seriously need to wake the **** up.
