It'd be very hard to pack on lean mass since you can't eat much.

I haven't had to many problems with gaining mass to badly, But going into competive BB I feel will be hard because of the BI-pass. I drink lots of protien powder and vitamins.

It's possible....... anything is possible.
However, gastric-bypass is usually only done for people who are considered morbidly obese. And people who are morbidly obese will usually have other factors that will prevent them from being serious in bodybuilding such as loose skin, gyno, etc.......

many many other factors that come into play this is a horible generalization. That would be the same as saying everyone who bodybuilds is trying to make up for their lack in the confidence and or penis dept.
I think it would be possible I have a few friends who have had the surgury and after 3 and 4 years they can eat a chicken breast, potato and cup of veggies in a sitting I am not sure how long till they could eat again though. The o.p has a great point as well protien shakes move through the stomach extreamly fast.
reppes to op for a great post and the will to try

Wellpower and self-discipline are not genetic. They are characteristics learned and they can be learned at any stage in life. It's these type of generalizations that cause stereotypes in society (eg. He is fat, so he must be lazy and sit at home all day eating mcdonalds).

In some ways I have to agree, But with some people like my self, I had undiagnosed Diabeties since youth that caused other health factors that lead to almost dieing, infact they gave me 9 month to live if, something wasn't done. I had tried every diet there was, with no effect because i was insulin dependant, I had bearly gotten semi undercontrol before my surgery, Will power waswn't a factor i could control how much i ate and what I ate, in fact i had limmeted my caloric intake to around 1200 calories aday before the surgery with little to no affect on my weight, I was to the point I could not walk with out crutches or a cane, For me the factor of being lazy and fat wasn't the problem my HEALTH was, I find that so many that have had and are looking at Gastric Bi-Pass are just infact very lazy with no will power, but there are a few of us that are just screwed because of genetic health problems like Diabeties, I am now off of insulin along with a hole hand full of medications that cause more problems, I have to watch my surgars regularly but that is just life. There are so many factors when it comes to health and well being, I will accomplish becoming a competitive Body Builder and if I have to write the books on GBPass and Body Building and health then so be it, I think and I'm finding that there is a stigmatism among athletes on people that have had GBPass and that the reason is they are just fat and lazy and don't want to work to get healthy, Fact is many can't get healthy if they don't have it. So that is one goal of mine. I will have extra skin to have removed to accomplish the Body Building goal but oh well, to me it's a trophy in a way , going from 375lbs and almost dead diagnosed to die in 9 months with and enlargeing heart and tomany factors to mention to almost being in perfect health and almost to the point of meeting my physical goals, I hope that one day I can be able to help others and be an insperation to those that think they can't do it, and blow so many away about the myths of It can't be done, It is goiing to be hard work but so is living for 25 years with almost two extra people living on you, well atleast 180 lb person extra on you. Laboring to breath, to walk, to sleep or just live normaly .

I feel your pain, and I am sympathetic. I weighed 475 pounds and considered the surgery myself at one point.
As for your bodybuilding goals, it isn't impossible, but it won't be easy. Many of the competitors spent 10+ years working on their physiques, and they are blessed with good genetics, and none of the issues of scarring after surgeries. You would probably need the help of a professional to set up a good bulking or cutting diet for your specific situation. Have you ever lifted before? If not you will need to establish a good workout program. Get started as soon as possible. I am working on achieving my dream of becoming much stronger right now.

Thumbs up!!!!
Good job at loseing the weight, I have been lifting since I was around 7, I also lived on a working hay farm and we did every thing the hard way, Which helped mask the fact that I had diabeties, the good thing is that I have always had a good boy type for bulking up and don't have to much problem packing on muscle, But with the surgery, I can't eat like I should so i supplement heavily with protien powder. I find it interesting that there aren't hardly any Gastric bi-pass patients that even try to Body build nor do any extream atheletic sports which i find a real shame, I guess most don't realize that they have been given a second chance at life. I for one want to do all I can to get into perfect shape. I spent most of my youth over weight and self conscience of my self and ashamed of how I looked and tryed soooooooo hard to change that, and Now I have the chance to do somthing about it and LIVE I can't imagine why somany that have had the same problems don't try to also do something. I am ready for the chalange and willing to take on the hard work to achieve my goals. and if I have to spend the next 20 years doing it then so be it. I do have a good freind that is a personal trainer and she is pushing me to the limits, She has several Gastric bi pass patients that she works with and wants me to be the example I think.

Not everyone gets really loose skin or gyno. You will likely get some loose skin if you lose 100 lbs or more.
