Need a GOOD leg workout

Please help! I just started working out again after my daughter was born. I have been lifting for a month already and have only lost 5 pounds...my diet is not quite perfect (I have to say that I have not cheated, not even once!), but I have not been eating enough.

I really need a killer leg workout. I have a trainer, but he has been doing the same stuff with me for over 2 years and my legs still look the same!

I'd like some advice on a new leg routine, and any information on what to do about weight loss (I'm at 170 and I'd like to get down to prepregnancy weight of 135). My July goal is 10 pounds. Is this realistic? I'm only lifting 3x week and I am doing cardio on the treadmill. Can I really do this ?

Thanks!

Lucy

First of all, congrats on the birth of your daughter.

Now, down to business

Fire your damn trainer. I am serious. A trainer that has you doing the same thing over 2 years does not know anything about how to build a decent looking and strong physique.

In order to gain mass/strength, you need to change some variables in your training. The first thing that lifters should be focusing on is changing the load; specifically, adding workload (weight x reps x sets) to the bar on a consistent and progressive basis. Progressive overload is the tenet of strength training.

Regarding a leg program, just keep it simple. Squats, deadlifts, lunges, and a posterior chain assistance movement (pull-throughs, hypers, glute ham raises) are all you really need.

Fire him and train yourself. The most I will ever give myself time to see if what i'm doing is producing results is about 3 months,if i see no changes in size, defenition,or strength and I know my nutrition is in check and I'm not overtraining, then I will try something else.Like Ripstone said keep it simple and train your ass off.

Squats with a side of deads and some cardio for dessert.

Here's my single favorite leg routine:

1) BB Squats
2) Stiff-legged Deadlifts
3) Walking Lunges
4) Standing Calf Raises

Elegantly simple.
