I had my last beer and Mountain Do
now we'll see some progress, perhaps, now that cut out all sugar and booze (the latter will still partake at parties)
I'm 50; anyone with similar ideas?

Although I rarely drink, I am (was until recently) a soda addict. I have just stopped and I am feeling a lot better. I am also 50.

I'm 39 and pretty much only drink water. Every now and then a soda. Every other weekend I drink beer on one day. Usually playing horseshoes...that way when I lose to my father-in-law I blame the beer! lol

Good luck, I used to drink several pepsi's per day and cut down to one per day for the last year or so. I recently tried to cut it out completely and couldn't get past the withdrawal, I know I am weak. I felt like crap and had a headache for days. So I have been drinking about half of one only with dinner. I went several months without drinking and recently went down to South Florida to see an old friend and drank, lets say, a good bit. I got extremely dehydrated and can say I do not miss the old party days. Well, ok, I do, but not the hangovers.

I quit drinking and laid off the sodas a few years ago and it did an awesome job of dropping fat just by doing that alone! Iw as quickly gaining extra fat while bulking and I ended all that goofy stuff and the fat came off and the bulking continued. Stomach measurement went down and arm measurement went up.
Alcohol not only is loaded with calories, it also screws up your testosterone production somehow. I didn't care how, I just knew that it did and that was good enough for me.
Congrats on the cleaner diet and you should start seeing improvement very soon!

I have fatty liver disease caused by a number of things,
but alcohol has been crossed off my list for life now ...
yes, definitely miss a nice cold beer after mowing the lawn
but having an estradiol level through the roof is incentive
enough to quit.
also quit the soda because its just sugar ... i save my
sugar fix for my coffee (one tsp versus about 10 in a soda!)
and don't really miss it either.
If it is a special occasion (like my dad's birthday) we will
split a beer over dinner (he's not allowed any booze either)
and I doubt that small amount will kill either of us (if it
does then we die happy, beer in hand, like men or some
reasonable facsimile!)
so yeah, quit the crap and eat and drink what's good for you!

For 15 years I was drinking around 6-8 cups of coffee a day on average. But last year I decided to give it up and I haven't had a cup since. I was never a soda drinker so I'm basically caffine free. I don't think it effected my health, but I sleep better and I just feel better about myself just knowing I had enough self discipline to quit cold turkey.
I gave up beer when I started working out seriously and while I may have one or two a month, I no longer look forward to getting home after work and having a few cold ones every night.
I do however still enjoy a fine cigar a few times a week. I figure I've given up the foods I love and the drinks I love, I may as well hold onto my last vice. A LaGloria Cubana Corona Extra Larga if you please.
Of course these days I get really bad Bare Naked Granola cravings....

I don't think you need to go cold turkey. A Dew and a couple of cold ones occasionally shouldn't hurt, but if you think cutting it off cold is the way to go, then that's great.

made a trip to the sperm clinic today (reading & video LOL); wife wants another kid and I'm cool too. Maybe laying off the booze made my sperm count higher?
Party tonight so a little wine. Also, if ever I was on a long road trip and dozing; then I'd likely do the Dew. So yes, in response to one person, moderation and not completely cutting it out but I'm feeling better already.
Today I also decided to lay off processed foods (all of it). We'll see how far the will power goes

For Lent this year I gave up Dr. Pepper (my super BAD addiction).
Didn't think I could go 40 days without it.
Before then, every Monday morning I marched into my office with a 12 pack under my arm - that lasted me for most of the work week. (Of course, I'd fill in the gaps with "to go" cups at lunch and on-the-run big gulps between job sites.)
Listen...I am a fallen off the wagon Catholic (don't mean to preach)... but, I've gotta tell ya, something kicked in this year at Easter. My desire for them Dr. Pepper's is GONE! That COLD TURKEY Lent business really worked!
I don't miss 'em one bit!
I'd be willing to bet that half of the weight that I've lost in the last 5 months came from not drinking those *&%$@#@# Dr. Pepper's!

I would just quit cold turkey, I quit drinking any soda over a year ago. One to two gallons of water a day. Try four ounces of water every hour and I think you will find that your body will start to "crave" water. I carry a one liter of bottle of water with me everywhere I go. As for the beer, tough call but once you get past the first couple of weeks, it just does not sound that good. I know hard to believe but after a while, the only thing I want is water.
Oh and by the way, I have dropped from 248 to 220 and strength is way up on all lifts.

As a result of quitting smoking 2 years ago I blimped up to 209 lbs and just dreaded getting any heavier - even though I worked out 2-3 days/wk and watched my diet I just couldn't stop gaining weight. So, at Lent quit sugar, booze, carbs and digital cable (tv had as much to do with it as food!). Lost 13 lbs of fat, kept the muscle, read more (about health of course!), and finally felt like I was in charge - it's great when other people notice too.
BTW I've started drinking wine over beer, ultimately it's good for you, a lot lower in carbs and drink less. "Never say Never", but it's good to take a break from your vices or addictions, just to see if you can.
