Protein.. bla bla bla
Hey guys? What's up? I've searched through the forum and wow, gotta admit, some big 15+ year olds here, respect. Anyways, I've been training a few years, not really hardcore, but yeah.
Anyways, what I wanted to ask was, does it matter at what age someone takes protein shakes? I want to stay healthy, so I'm asking if it actually matters what age I take it at? since it's just protein. However, let me know if it would do me bad.
Also, how much would one have to take in grams? Thanks...
I'll be going to the gym now, hopefully I've got a reply by the time I'm back.
btw: great forum, I'll probably hang around here more often in the future
EDIT: Also, I'd like to add, that I do eat alot, I've been trying to eat as much fish as possible lately, however, I've just had someone tell me, that alone from food, if you eat regularly, you can't get enough protein. So blah, please let me know

Some will argue with me but i think age 13 is the age you can "safely" begin using protein shakes. Like all protein it can have some effects on the liver after a long time and can also cause acne.
You are perfectly fine to take protein now at age 16, I suggest ON 100% Whey, there pretty tasty. You can get these same things at places like GNC for cheaper money to.
As for how much to take, One gram of protein per pound pound of bodyweight.
It will help you gain lean muscle, enhance immune function, etc etc. I recommend taking it 30 min pre and after workout.
To answer your edit: Yes, you dont even need protein drinks if you eat correctly. I highly suggest you read this.

Wow, thanks man, I really appreciate your fast reply, was just about to head out, however, I do not live in an english country, so I don't know if they have the same products here, like they have there, however, I will try to look for whey products! Anyways, now, I have to go!
Thanks for your fast reply, greatly appreciated.
Later!

protein is healthy at any age, just not in extreme excess...a good goal is to get 1-2 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight
the best type of protein in my opinion is whey, just for some extra info...and it is very safe

You spelt retarded wrong and you criticize my post, give me a break. I pity you. I am telling him the truth, if he has had liver problems in the past or is prone to liver or kidney problems then YES protein can cause liver effects in the long run. Better to tell the guy now instead of 2 months down the road when hes in the ER for a liver failure right?
Protein can also cause acne for some, it may not relate to him but it happens to alot of people like I who suffer from acne, Hormone imbalances and dairy can cause acne KID, Now dont argue with me unless you have the smarts and proof to back it up. Negged for being a complete A-hole.

i have no information on the liver, but the acne, i have personal experience.
protien doesn't affect ACNE directly, but when your body is processing 200 grams of protein, + all the stress from bodybuilding + extra sweat + increased test levels = leading to hormono imbalance = leading to more acne if you are PRONE to it
// gg .

So wheres your proof that protein messes up the liver? So should I stop eating so much meat? Protein also does not make your hormones all messed up.

the "processed" protein can cause complications to your liver if you use it a lot on a daily basis.
like the powder and pills.
natural protein like eating real food wont do jack **** except cause high cholesterol/heart disease

Wow Strong 15 year old nutritionist.
BTW, there isn't any hard concrete evidence that protein taken in moderation ruins the liver. Yeah, no **** it's going to ruin your liver if you eat 3 lbs of whey powder a day. If you drink 5 gallons of water your stomach will explode and you'll die, does that mean I should stop drinking alot of water?

Lmao, I love how trying to help someone new to bb leads to a chaotic thread of people fighting over e-net. Im not here to argue, I was just simply warning him about what COULD happen if hes prone to it or has had problems in the past, But like the majority of the threads on here it ends up as a flame war.
And i could care less if your 60 lbs bigger than me to tell you the truth

Your old enough, While it is sometimes very hard to get 1.5-2 grams of protein per lbs. of bodyweight, which is the main reason most take shakes, if you can get all your protein from food, I would still recommend a whey shake for after workouts, because whey is fast digesting and will get to muscles quicker then soy or casien(slow digesting) protien. How much protein do you get from your food throughout the day?
