what were you doing 3 years ago this time?
It happened about 3:00pm GMT I think, that day I was on a trip to this rural place near our town, and had been walking round for about 3 hours taking photos for history coursework. I walked about 5 miles home with a friend and saw it on the tv, and told some ppl who were back in school. I remember they didn't believe me, and I remember watching it on the TV (it was on all 4 channels) in the kitchen
was weird... and horrible
what were you doing?

Turned on the TV at around 1:45pm (gmt) and saw the first tower on fire, i then watched as the second plane hit. I watched the news for over 4 hours as the other planes crashed. I kept switching between CNN, BBC1 and 2, ITV and Sky news.
I can remember eating Cadburys fruit and nut biscuits as it happened.

I was in psych class in 11th grade. I walked in and Ms Roberts turned the tv off and waited until everyone was in the room. She explained what was happening and when she turned the tv on the 2nd tower was hit. We sat and watched and the attendance office kept calling the room and people were leaving. Ms Roberts said the attendance office said my mom called and I was to walk home. Me being a very laid back person and not realizing the magnatude of whats happening thought she meant after school. So I stayed the rest of the school day then walked home where my dad was. He then proceeded to tell me how Bush was gonna blow the **** outta the "a-rabs". At the time it seemed like a good idea...

I live in New Jersey; across the river was the WTC. Everyone stood there, silent, and looked at the giant cloud of smoke.
That's all we saw: Smoke.

I was filling in a claim for income support
and watching Teletext news at the time when a line flashed up in yellow "Aeroplane hijacked over United States" which I ignored thinking it was Afghans hijacking another plane to claim political aslymn (as had happened in the UK a few months earlier). But when a second and third happened that I thought was weird. This was in the days of analogue TV and so as I went to change to watch Prime Minister Blair make a statement to the TUC I found live pictures of a burning World Trade Centre and instantly switched to BBC One where they had scrapped the schedule and watched as the second plane hit. I must have been in shock because I wrote to my online associates at the time "Will this have an effect on the off year elections this year". I stayed up until 0130 BST (2030 EDT) to watch President Bush's statement

Well it was about my 5th day in eigth grade and i dont remember what happened up until about 12 o'clock but by this time word had spread all around the school and we began to talk about what was happening in class with my history teacher after the class ended i got a call from my mom telling me to get my ass home. I came home and started to watch the 2 towers burning and all the replays of the second tower being hit. Then i decided to go to my friends house and go watch the smoke from his roof

I had just arrived home from school at around noon or something, switched on the tv and saw a plane crashing into a building. For like the next 20mins i was convinced it was some movie. After that i spent all day pondering who was responsible, i was pretty sure it was the Russians or Chinese

I was Econ class. I remember the school's government teacher running down the hallways going into each room and informing everybody. At the time, all I heard was "a plane crashed into the WTC." Nothing more, nothing less. 2 periods later, my study hall, the teacher had the TV turned on and then we realized it had been a terrorist attack. Though for some reason 20 minutes into that period teachers got a voice mail that the news was not be shown in any room, so we had to shut it off. The next period was lunch and that was when the other plane crashed in Pennsylvania, not too far from our school. That got everyone a little worried. After lunch, students were being called to the library because their parents had called and wanted them to be home. As soon as I got home I turned NBC on and for once, never switched the channel the entire night.

I was in Germany. I had just finished a CATIA course the week before(training for new job). They weren't set up for me at the other location, so my friend and I were just practicing our CATIA skills at the place where they trained us, when his uncle(one of the owners of the company) came in and said something to Lars in German. Lars had sort of a shocked look on his face and said two planes had flown into the WTC... I looked at his uncle waiting for a punch line that never came. We talked about what might have happened, and who might have been responsible. I certainly didn't get anything done after that. Then after a couple hours we went home and turned on CNN World and watched it for what seemed like an eternity, watching the towers come down, over and over. I would have never expected to it to be anything like that without actually seeing it. A couple days later we had the Osama picture with "Wanted, Dead or Alive" taped to the passenger-side window of the car so every could see it as we drove by.

I left school at about 3:35, walked to the barber's, had a haircut whilst hearing something on the radio about a plane crashing into a building. I then walked home, and started to get to work on my homework. After that I played a few computer games (probably Civ 2), then walked downstairs into the living room at 6:00 and saw the pictures.

Senior in HS, sitting in Econ class 1st period. We turned on the TV and saw the first tower smoking. We all thought it was an accident and we were kinda joking about what an idiot the pilot was. Couple minutes later we saw the second plane hit. I remember saying, "Oh ****" then every ne was quiet.

I was in school in Spanish class.
I just about shat my pants since I knew my mother had an appointment at 8:30 in the World Trade Center. The meeting was changed the night before, which I did not know about. Lucky my mom checked her email that morning.

I was in my gr. 11 chem class when a friend of mine walked in late and said ''the towers got hit'', I told him to stop joking and pay attention. 5 minutes later my teacher walks in and says the twin towers got hit by an airplane.
Edit: My teacher said that ''we'd all remember exactly where we were that day'', no kidding.
