A lot of people must suffer from small penii on this board. Can't just buy a basic car to get around, has to be the biggest most expensive one you can find.
If you can afford the regular Lancer and it does what you need or don't have to act like a professional race car driver then get it.

its another economy car that looks better than other cars in its class
obviously an evo is faster and better but its also almost twice the price

A car loses so much value the second you drive it off the lot. Get a 1-2 year old car, let someone else pay it; people won't know you bought it used.

I say wait a year then get it. Usually a new bodystyle/platform has some bugs to be worked out. Sometimes the next year will also get some goodies the previous year didn't. This has happened in my family on three different occasions.

Good luck with insurance.
Mitsubishi's generally rack up HUGE insurance payments. The Mitsubishi Mirage was the most expensive vehicle of its class to insure, due to safety issues. Even now, there are new cars that are cheaper to insure than 2001 or so...used Mirage.
The Lancer is expensive because its portrayed as a "racing car", regardless of whether or not its a regular or an Evo, so the insurance companies respond accordingly with their pricing.
