more jesus-camp-type BS
Quote:
The leaders of BattleCry claim that their religion and values are under attack, but amid spectacular light shows, Hummers, Navy SEALs and military imagery on stage, it is BattleCry that has declared war on everyone else. Its leader, Ron Luce, insists: ?This is war. And Jesus invites us to get into the action, telling us that the violent?the ?forceful? ones?will lay hold of the kingdom.?
BattleCry is a part of the evangelical organization Teen Mania, and you can learn a lot about the kind of society that Teen Mania is fighting for by reading up on its Honor Academy, a non-accredited educational institution that offers directed internships to 700 undergraduate and graduate youth each year. Among the academy?s tenets: Homosexuality and masturbation are sins. Interns are forbidden to listen to secular music, watch R-rated movies or date; men can?t use the Internet unsupervised; the length of women?s skirts is regulated. The logic behind this?that men must be protected from the sin of sexual temptation?is what drives Islamic fundamentalists to shroud women in burkhas!

"When you enlist in the military, there's a code of honor," Luce preaches, "same as being a follower of Christ." His Christian code requires a "wartime mentality": a "survival orientation" and a readiness to face "real enemies." The queers and communists, feminists and Muslims, to be sure, but also the entire American cultural apparatus of marketing and merchandising, the "techno-terrorists" of mass media, doing to the morality of a generation what Osama bin Laden did to the Twin Towers.
|
this group is teaching people that non-christians are evil scum, and part of the "pigpen."
Quote:
|
Luce lays out cooked statistics, images, assertions. He doesn't explain -- he warns. To the crowd of watery-eyed teens he recites letters he says their peers have sent him, souls lost to what he calls, over and over, the "pigpen" of secularism. It's a reference to the sorry fate of the prodigal son in the Gospel of Luke, who wound up tending hogs until he submitted to the authority of God and was restored to his riches. There's an unnamed girl who left Jesus and then "got date raped." There's "Emily," who dated a non-Christian boy -- "now she works in pornography and lives a bisexual lifestyle." Luce sneers: "pigpen."
|
wow: leave jesus-get date raped. nice.

Eh, who cares.
I doubt 90% of the kids believe this **** and the 10% that would are probably not mentally balanced anyway. They will either be blind followers or get kicked out of college for academic probation because they spend all their nights drinking and having sex.

wasn't it the meek who were supposed to inherit the earth?
when i see ANY sort of christian legion/ministry/cult (etc...) one thing comes to mind: $$$$$$$$
these proselytizers are snake oil salesmen selling lost people what they want to hear: follow jesus (through me) to eternal salvation!
this guy quoted in the OP just has a different slant on things enabling him to pull more people in producing more $$$$!
the question arises?
why cant we tax an obvious money making enterprise just because they sell god?

The productions at these events are pretty big. Plus the bands have to get paid so they have to support it somehow. Not to mention that the crews have to get paid and the rent for the arenas have to be paid for. You guys think that Christians aren't supposed to earn an income or something.

The good news is that the younger generation of children/teens/college age people will leave the church after service, head to school the next day and have typical American influences balancing out this sort of teaching. They get hammered over the head with Jesus camp stuff and then they get hammered over the head with drugs, alcohol and sex. Sounds like a winning combo!
And lol @ the RollingStones website. I'm sure they don't have an agenda.......

I didn't say they were free. I was explaining why they do charge because the events aren't cheap to put on. Yes they sell merchandise and stuff. There is nothing wrong with selling a t-shirt or other souveniers. They don't make people buy them. These people that put on large events do this full time. They need a paycheck just like everyone else.
Even the Apostle Paul got paid! I think it was the church in Ephasus that gave him a large donation.
In the end it's really all about how you spend the money you earn while putting on Christian events. If the organizer of Acquire the fire becomes a millionaire and starts buying expensive cars and clothes and blowing money left and right then I will start questioning it myself.

he is a 'christian entrepeneur' as is anybody who makes $ off of christianity!
its big business and nothing more; a rock n roll festival with a different slant...all TAX FREE!
jesus said: 'it is harder for a rich man to enter heaven then it is for a camel to fly through the eye of a needle"...
pt barnum said; 'there is a sucker born every minute'...
i think both quotes apply here perfectly!

uh, no, we think they are supposed to pay their dues, just like everyone else. we also think that they aren't supposed to become rich off of it, since jesus said not to store up riches on earth, but in heaven. want the verses? ok, here you go.
MATHEW 6:19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
these kinds of businesses generate millions of dollars, and the scum that run the show don't have to pay taxes. then some of them go out and buy 20 million dollar jets that will be used to "serve the lord."
but this isn't so much about how these idiots make their money, but the f*cked up messages that they're preaching.

I live in Iowa and at my side of the state, Fundamentalist Christianity has an iron grip on many communities. So I've seen first hand how this bull**** movement is ****ing things up. There are some people who just follow along and there are some that just stand by, scratch their heads, and say, "What the **** is going on here?"
In 5 years, I've seen the creation of three fundie churches nearby my house and I've seen how issues have warped to more fundie issues.
So I know how ****ty things are with fundies. There's no doubt that they are doing a lot of damage with their extreme shortsightedness.

Ya they might say that but i doubt if 10% of them really hold to true christian values.
The only reason they say that is cuz they think they're playing it safe by checking the box marked "christian" on the questionaire.
The only people who really give a rats ass about religion down in the states are old people and fundy bible thumpers and no one really cares about either of those groups.
