Pre-bed: Whey vs. Cottage Cheese
I've been drinking whey with water before bed for a while, but decided to give cottage cheese another try today. I tried it once about a year ago and it tasted awful, but since everyone praises it to no end, I figured I'd pick some up today. Then I looked at the nutrition facts and a question rolled into my mind: "What?" So what's the big deal about cottage cheese? The casein protein? There really isn't much in there.
Whey (1 scoop, Champion Nutrition Chocolate):
130 Calories
2g Fat
4g Carbs
23g Protein
Cottage Cheese (Breakstone's Fat Free, 4oz cups):
70 Calories
0g Fat
7g Carbs
11g Protein
So I'd have to eat two 4oz cups of cottage cheese to get about the same amount of protein as the whey, but I'd also get 10 more calories and 10g more carbs (which are all sugar).
So what's the big deal? I'd rather not eat that sour, chunky, rotten milk, and from the looks of it, I shouldn't have to.

Well first off, if your cc is sour and rotten, theres no freakin wonder you can't eat it. Check the date next time you're buying it.
Second, the protein found in cottage cheese is primarily casein, which is what you want before bed rather than whey. Rather than having your whey protein being absorbed shortly after you ingest it, casein is absorbed much slower, allowing you to stay out of a catabolic state for a prolonged period of time.
Most people actually don't mind the small serving sizes/calories of cc, as they usually add some sort of fat source to along w/ thier half-cup or cup, (peanut butter or almond butter) that raises the calories and makes for an even LONGER anabolic state for when you sleep.
Plain and simple, whey is a good souce of protein for post workout or supping in throughout your daily schedule, but before bed, nothin beats a cc + peanut butter combo.

x2 and end of thread.. my man wrapped it up right there
only thing to add is if u dont like Peanut butter toss in some almonds on the side with ur cottage cheese.. another good fat source to have that will prolong the effect of ur cottage cheese
if u dont like any of the above and perfer taking shakes caesin is ur best bet..maybe u can find one at a local GNC on sale.. or go for a shot at finding a cheap one online
you can find one under BB.com look for the cheapest buy lbs/serving

I once mixed microwaved peanut butter with cold cottage cheese... it tasted disgusting... I probably put too much peanut butter, or I wasn't using the right kind of peanut butter...
