Old School Full Body Routines and Programming
Just curious if anyone here knows how the old timers such as Reg Park and Marvin Eder trained with regards to programming.
What I want to know is how they structured their training throughout the week. Surely they just didn't train all out at each session. They must have used a heavy/light or a heavy/light/medium scheme, or at least something along those lines.
I have searched high and low on Google for the past few days, but I didn't find anything pertaining to my question.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link, good info but still not what I am looking for.
I found an old 'training article' that Reg Park wrote:
http://regpark.net/index.php?option=...d=33&Itemid=29
He advocates a full body routines compromised of 5 big movements done for 1 month. Followed by 1 week off, and another full body routine of 5 complimentary big movements for another month.
I'm not sure if this is how he did it as well.

www.superstrengthbooks.com
That site has some great books for sale on it, and I think Mark Berry's program book has Grimek's programs in it.

I found out at the forums over at Reg Park's official site that he would train hard every workout (that is coming directly from Reg). I'm not sure though how some of the other old timers trained throughout the week like Grimek and Eder.
Thanks for the link ShogunAssasin, I found that site too. They have Reg Park's book as well.

I had some questions about full body routines myself. I don't see how they can be for bodybuilding, I can see them more used for strength building! To really do a full body routine that hits all muscles leaves me fatiqued like a motha. And I do certain exercises heavy one day and light the other, but I think I would get more result from full body if I used it for strength gains. Like someone said just do 5 basic exercises, maybe some additional work, but very little.
So what do you guys think? Full body routines better for strength than for mass building?

NoMo start a new thread and don't hijack this one. This thread isn't about full body routines, but about how the old timers like Grimek, Park and Eder trained.

Sorry, I thought since they trained full body, I thought I got to hear there take on it (read about it). I mean did they use full body routines to add strength or also as a mass routine?

Strength plus caloric surplus equals mass. I hope that answers your question, as I'm interested in knowing how did old timers trained too.

if you want to see some of the routines Reg used look here:
http://www.naturalstrength.com/history/regpark.htm
http://regpark.net/index.php?option=...d=33&Itemid=29
http://ezinearticles.com/?Reg-Parks-...kout&id=223403
Like I said before, he trained hard each session. But I think I read in an article somewhere that sometimes he would do a lighter workout if he needed too. And he advocated deadlifting only once a week on an off day.
