Oops, I did it again!

Does this happen to anyone else? I'm a 43 year old male and have been lifting off and on for several years. Over the last two years I have fractured my ribs twice lifting weights. I'm not sure if it is the strain I'm putting against my rib cage when I'm lifting, or if I'm not getting the right kind of supplements. The first time I fractured a rib was doing preacher curls. I figured I leaned against the bench too hard. It happened again last week and I'm not sure exactly at what point. You would imagine an instant pain when you crack a rib but it wasn't the case. I didn't notice until the next day after work out and it's been sore since. Anyone have any ideas?

Wow - that's a new one on me. The only time I've ever heard of anyone fracturing ribs while lifting is when they're bench pressing and bounce the barbell off their chest! Hope you heal quick!

Thanks Kolja! Yeah, it's really annoying me. I get all of my training only from reading BodyBuilding.com so I'm not sure if I'm straining too hard when I'm lifting. I haven't dropped any weights on my chest so I know that isn't the cause. Against doctors advice, (and my wifes) I worked out tonight with a sore rib.

Sounds painful, I'm not sure how it happened, but you do need to let it heal.

I am surprised your doctor hasn't ordered a DEXA scan to check your bone density! Ask him about it. You shouldn't fracture that easily especially at your age.
