Exclamation Anyone here have absolutely nothing in common with their parents? (SERIOUS)

Anyone here have absolutely nothing in common with their parents? (SERIOUS)

And if so, how do you get on? Do you keep regular contact; did you try to find common ground?

I think my mum and I have pretty much drifted apart. We have different interests, views and opinions. We?re both African, female and Christian and maybe that?s about it .I *think*it?s partly due to a gap in cultures. But anyway, I feel like one of the Krane brothers and their father.

Basically, I?m completely different from the way I was brought up. So now we have no common interests. Our tastes and lifestyle are different. Conversations are really difficult because she?s so set in her ways that they turn into one-sided diatribes so I just abandon the conversation and stay quiet.

I could live with the differences and just keep my contact minimal but I have no brothers and sisters and she lives alone. If I don?t keep in touch, she gets upset.

Is anyone else in a similar situation with their parents?

My mom and I have very little in common but she is one of my favorite people in the world, one of my best friends. No common interests or hobbies besides video games lol. It probably helps though that unlike your mom, my mom is very open-minded and one of the most chilled out people on Earth (part of the reason I'm still living at home LOL)

My dad on the other hand, I'm not very close with him even though we are basically carbon copies of each other in regards to interests. Outdoors, cars, mechanics, gardening, etc. Pretty much every interest we share.

So yeah, I don't think it's really a matter of finding common interests, but more just finding common ground, sounds like it might be hard with your mom. A lot of my friends are Carribbean and their parents seem to be the same way, a lot of the old timer Island folk at work as well...just very set in their ways and unwilling to bring it into the new century.
