Normally, eating lots of veggies is a good thing. Healthy for you. Unless, of course, you put butter, cheese, hollandaise sauce, or something like that, all over them.

LOL I hate to laugh but sometimes I wonder whether you're serious. Okay, most of the time I wonder whether you're serious. I've read but not responded to a lot of your threads because I can't figure out how to respond.
I realize you've got the ED thing going. I can't remember whether you said you were getting professional help for it or not. I'm not sure how to deal with that. But I've just got this feeling that you are smart enough to think outside your ED and know when your response to food has more to do with your ED than reality.
PLEASE tell me said vegetables were covered in cheese or butter or fried in grease or something. I'm assuming not because in all your other threads you seem to be quite the minimalist when it comes to preparing food. If there was not something that turned your veggies into fast food, you really need to allow yourself to think logically. If you'll enter how many veggies you ate into fitday, you'll probably find that you burned them off typing your query.
I'm sorry if that wasn't the most nurturing response...but seriously. After you've been told to eat more by several people, you think binging out on some veggies might have been taking it too far? Let's think a little here.

Well, it won't come through if you aren't giving the muscles enough to grow on. Weighted abdominal work, cardio, proper nutrition- that includes plenty of fiber from yummy veggies!

Brooke...we all really want to help you here! The only thing I see wrong with you eating tons of veggies is that it fills you up and keeps you from eating carbs and protein and fat, which you really need!!!!

I always consider fibrous veggies to be "free" - it's really hard to overeat on those, UNLESS your calories are too low for the day, then you need to be eating things with higher calorie to density ratios.

I'm actually quite serious and trying my best. I've been eating 14-1500 calories a day (more than ever in my life) And in two weeks have put on 2 pounds of muscle. I'm just afraid of the smallest slip up. I eat the whole can of tuna now, 6 egg whites, 4-5 ounces of chicken, even a little more than a serving of my oats (its so yummy and I love the energy) covered in my protein powder. A casein blend shake before bed and a whey shake with a fast acting carb after my workout and a lot of green veggies. I feel really good, but there are times in my day where I feel like I'm getting fat. Just my ED thinking for me. I am trying so hard though.

You guys have helped me so much you have no idea. I'm getting my pictures up as soon as I get a new camera. I appreciate everything. This is changing my life, honestly. I'm not nearly as afraid of food as I was, even just two weeks ago. You girls are something else

I'm sure you can eat more than 1400-1500 calories, but since you had an ED, I know increasing the calories can lead to digestion problems sometimes. Are you seeing a doctor still? It's definitely difficult to deal with that on your own.

I am definately having digestive problems now, so I've started taking papaya extract super enzymes. They are a huge help. Even better than that is being able to sit down with a nice full plate four times a day

A probiotic formula will also help; I bought my Accu-Flora from Costco. It contains the same active cultures found in yogurt, they help out the flora and fauna found in your intestines. Fennel will also help with digestion and an upset stomach, it tastes a bit like licorice. Have you considered seeing a nutritionist? They will be able to better evaluate your caloric needs and might help you with a plan to increase calories, that way you aren't stuck at such a low amount.

You think 1500 is a low amount? I mean I do workout pretty hard, but i feel like I'm eating enough now, I'm never hungry in between my meals...I guess I should go see someone. Also soon I will be incorporating brown rice into my diet so thats a 100 or so more.

Well I'm eating 1600 a day on a culk (a slow, muscle-building, fat losing phase), and that's a 600 calorie deficit. Here's the article I used to determine my calorie deficit.
http://www.mindandmuscle.net/article...oss?page=0%2C1
It's helpful to know your body fat, because with an ED you might overestimate the amount of fat you're actually carrying. I am carrying 20 lbs of fat, so I can handle a 600 calorie deficit. Someone with only 10 lbs of body fat can only handle a 300 calorie deficit. You should also check out some online BMR calculators that will give you an estimation based on your height, weight, gender, age and activity level. I really don't think you need to be cutting your calories, if anything you should try to work up to maintenance when you can handle that many calories.

You're lucky to have that done! What kind of measurement tool are they using? I'll be happy to give you my opinion :-)

Water tank is really accurate, but can be expensive and hard to find. It's mostly affected by air in your lungs (which is why they have to exhale) and the gas in your intestines. Calipers are way cheaper and easier to find, but have an error from 3.5-5%, and are affected by water retention/hydration. Bioimpedance is REALLY affected by hydration and has a larger margin of error than calipers, and usually come up with an odd measurement for atheletes (I come up about 10% higher on our crappy foot-bioimpedance than on calipers with my personal trainer). If you use calipers, make sure it's done by someone who knows how, like a personal trainer. You can't really do it yourself.

Carrots are a bit starchy. Cucumbers to my knowledge aren't that calorie dense...plus, who eats a whole cucumber? ;-) And with your low calories, you can definitely eat a lot of veggies *along with* your 1500 calories. An ED leaves your body deficient, there's nothing wrong with filling it with healthy foods.

Yeah, gotta agree with this one. The OP has been told several times to eat more, admits to having an eating disorder, then says she "pigged out" on a few extra servings of raw vegetables and asks in the same BB forum if she should do more cardio to burn off the 50 extra calories she ate from a cucumber. Sorry, but that just seems ridiculous to me. Is this a cry for help? For attention? Does she just want an audience? I don't get it.

have you ever had an ED? if not, then you wouldn't understand the mentality and shouldn't call it ridiculous just because you don't get it. she's not being an attention whore - she's trying to work through something that is difficult for her. she's making an attempt to understand things and to change the way she thinks. where is the error in that? speaking as someone with quite a bit of experience with EDs, when you're already thin and then eat and your stomach pokes out past where it "should" or you feel too full (which, of course, eating fibrous foods will do to you!), your brain and emotions go into overdrive regarding the intake and you feel "fat." at least she didn't go and purge the food. she came on here instead to seek reassurance. there is nothing unhealthy about that.
i understand where you're coming from, and the poster you referenced on some points, but try to understand the mentality of an ED before you shoot someone down.

Thank you for putting that in better words than I could have Charis. If I had known I was going to be attacked I wouldnt have posted it. I wouldve just dealt. I thought that this was a support forum. I was hoping this was a place of free discussion, and if your opinion could be of assistance and not ridicule or doubt, you would post it. What seems like absolute BS to you all are things I face everyday, and are painstakingly legitamite. I find more comfort and peace on here than I would on an anorexia discussion board.
