Cardio 1 hour after training.....ok?
With a busy life (work, wife, kids, etc.) my time to train is restricted to late afternoons. So, I usually train from 3:30PM to 4:45PM......then I go home.....round up the wife...throw the kids in the two-man jogger.....and run 4-5 miles (5 days a week).
Note: I pop two creatine pills prior to training.....and two more right after. I also drink an 8-10 ounce protein shake on the way home (and in the morning....as well as before bed).
My question is..........does the 4-5 miles of jogging within an hour after weight training have any negative effects?
I'm 39 years old (if that matters).
Thanks!!

Yes, it has an effect. Running 4-5 miles 5 times per week will almost certainly erase any gains you're trying to make gaining muscle. There is nothing wrong with running post workout, but the kind of distance you're running is counterproductive if you're trying to gain mass.

Two things come to mind; timing of cardio and quanity.
1. Timing: would depend on what your goals are. If you are needing to burn fat then I would do cardio before weight training. If your goal is to add lean muscle, do it after weights.
2. Quanity: Everything I have read (and been told) states that any cardio session that lasts over 45 mintues burns muscle. With that said, again depending on your goals, I would not exceed 30-45 mintues. If you do intervals, you can get away with 20-30 minutes, depending on several other factors.
My 2 cents

With all due respect, Olesmonkey......this ^ makes no sense. 1. You don't want to do serious cardio (4-5 miles is serious) before lifting weights, as you will have depleted your body of glycogen doing intense cardio first. You can still burn fat efficiently before or after lifting.......but doing it before is a mistake every time. 2. If his goal is to add lean muscle, he still doesn't want to run that distance after lifting, and for 5 days per week.

x2
for what it's worth, right after my workouts i take in some carbs and then get on a treadmill and walk 3 miles/hr at a 15 degree incline for either 20 or 30 minutes, max.... anything more than that is counterproductive for me (my goal is the get "bigger")

I would think so. The running tears down the muscle you just built up.
Try to run2 days after leg workout. You can run 1 day after upper body and/or arms workout.
