Possibly failing a class which may get me kicked out of law school (serious)
I was running a C/C+ in this elective class im taking now, and our take home final was due today. I actually did it a week ago but misread the instruction sheet, and thought it was due at 5pm, but i was wrong. I get up at 3:10 today, and i look at the sheet and it says 3pm, and then it says any papers handed in after 3pm will not be graded. This final is worth 30% of the grade, and i am sure I got an A on it, but if he holds me to his sheet, i could easily fail the class since im running a crap grade at the moment.
I emailed him to confirm that he got my exam, and this is what he sent me,
"I didn't see you in my office, and I don't have an exam for you. I
left at 3:10 this afternoon from Bartlett. I presume you got there
after that time. I will be back on campus in the next day or so to
pick up all the late exams."
Does it seem like they were bluffing w/ the 3pm deadline since he is still going to pick up the late exams? If i get a 0 on this exam i can't pass the class, it's a numbers thing. And if i fail, i do not graduate, which means i can't go to law school in the fall. Should I wait a bit before busting out the sob story?

Do you have teh AIDS like Tom Hanks in Philadelphia when he nearly missed the deadline?
I hate people who miss deadlines. It's normally some girl who just did an hour's extra work over what you did and gets away with it. Also people who go over word limits by a load. That's why I run a facist regime as class rep making sure lecturers and professors dock for these violations!

He was likely bluffing. Why would he even pick up late exams if he wasn't going to grade them? Most professors write threatening stuff like that on the syllabus just to get the students to turn their work in on time consistently.
If you absolutely have to, just explain to him that you misread the sheet, and that a simple mistake like that could cost you a chance to go to law school which has been a lifelong dream. Most professors aren't going to be dicks about stuff like this, he doesn't want to feel bad about ruining a kids career because he did an exam but simply turned it in 2 hours late.

Be more careful next time when it comes to a grade that important. If/when an assignment is worth a large portion of my grade I make sure to get it done and handed in on time.
Why the hell were you waking up at 3pm anyways?

honestly if they don't grade it im not gonna be mad at the TA or professor because i straight up f'ed this up bad, and i take responsibility for my actions, but im really hoping they can give me a break on this, in all 4 years of college this si the only time i've ever missed a deadline. At this point I don't even give a crap if he drops me a letter grade on the Final for handing it in late, i just absolutely need it graded though otherwise there is no chance.
And the law school thing is 100% serious too, i would explain that all to him. They are taking me on the basis that I graduate, so if i don't graduate and have a degree, i can't enter law school and i will literally get kicked out.

It would be your fault, but like I said, why would he even come back and pick up late finals just to write a big zero on the top of them?
He will probably deduct a letter grade at worst, most professors aren't going to want to screw up a kids chance at law school because of something minor. Now if you completely blew off the final that would be a different story, but you have made it clear to him you did not.

yea i know it is my fault, i am simply begging the guy at this point to still grade it because i know i messed up and this was 100 and 10% avoidable. I didn't tell him that it will keep me from graduating and hence going to law school this fall, but i figure ill wait until i know for sure what is happening.

man relax, they aren't gonna chop you from graduating because you handed in an exam a few minutes late - those are such empty threats.
if you do end up going to law school, it makes your undergrad school look a lot better, and i think in the long term they realize that. professors can be pricks, but they're not jerks... if that makes any sense.
PS i just got my powerscore logic games bible in the mail!

powerscore is good stuff, that book kept me from not completely bombing the games section lol. Im just scared because ive never missed a time deadline before, and i don't know how serious they take them. All i am going by is what he wrote on the instructions, which clearly says anything past 3pm won't be graded, and that is what is freaking me out.

x2. OP just be firm and polite and explain the law school situation. Alot of professors do bluff on their syllabus.

Same thing happened to me with a class that I was bustin arse for.....except I wasnt near failing it but I really wanted the A because I was working so hard. Anyways, I missed the deadline as well and my prof said "you're going into a profession where deadlines can be a matter of life or death, as are the instructions you are given. Because of that, I will not give you full credit".....that was a paper I had probably worked the hardest on in my entire life
But you know what, because of that conversation I NEVER miss another deadline.....lifes lessons are hard sometimes

well the guy is still taking points off which is fine, i don't care. Im sure ill get an A on the paper anyway, so worst comes to worst, ill probably get a B instead. But if he just flat out gave me a zero, i would have gotten an F in this class instead of a B, which seriously would have messed me up, at least for a year or so until i reapply to law school
