Are burritos bad for you?
Im hooked on this burrito place by my house and im wondering if i shoudl stop eating there because burritos are bad for you. I usually get a whole wheat tortilla with rice, beans, chicken, a tiny bit of cheese and sour cream and a TON of lettuce. Any idea how many calories this would be and whether or not this is a decent meal to eat for someone trying to lose weight. I eat one of these and am full for hours afterwards so they are really filling, anyways any help would be appreciated, thanks.

it really depends on how they make em. The tortillas are probably made with a ton of butter/lard, and packed with sat fats. The beans and meat are probably cooked in a lot of grease. The rice is probably white rice, which is high GI. and then youve got the cheese and sour cream. All in all, a pretty unhealthy meal.
Just make your own. You can use healthy tortillas, grilled chicken, cook your own beans in olive/canola oil or something, and use brown/wild/basmati rice, and use fat free cheese. thatll be packed with EFAs, low in sat fats, and plenty of protein and low GI carbs.

oh, i didnt notice that you were trying to lose weight. If that's the case, then "being full for hours after" is definitely a BAD thing. you shouldnt eat a few giant meals per day whether bulking or cutting, but especially when cutting. Cutting requires a caloric deficit, and if you're overloading your body with giant meals, not only will you be spiking insulin which will cause fat storage if you accidentally go over maintenance in your cals, but the long period following your meal and before your next one will be a period of muscle catabolism, which is made worse by your caloric deficit from cutting.
Bascially, eat 5-8 small meals a day. Don't achieve caloric deficit by eating one or two big ones, or most of your weight loss will be muscle and not fat.

Sounds like it's too much, but generally decent in content. If there's no cheese, minimal sour cream, and no butter in the cooking of the chicken (hopefully it's an open grill), then it's not all that bad. It's not an A+, but not a big deal.
Try eating half of it, and saving half for the next day.

my family had burritos last night, only bad thing about them is the tortilla's and maybe the sauce
note: they did just wrap some chicken up in lettuce and tomato, with the chicken had been fried in the sauce (no problem if you have a non-stick fry pan)
but i dont like the tortilla/flat bread, they are very processed and therefor have little nutrients and a higher-GI

Here's a clean, high protein burrito.
1 large low carb tortila from la tortila factory
1 chicken breast diced up
2 slices fat free cheese
fat free sour cream
brown rice
veggies(optional)
