Help me with my sleep.... (reps)
Ok, im on rippetoes so im lifting mon wed fri. Usually I get home from school at 2:30 and then at 5:30 go lift. On days I lift im usually tired when I get home so I nap from 4-5:30 before lifting. Whenever I take a nap, that night I just CANNOT sleep till 1 am or later, even though im in bed by 10. Other nights when I dont lift (and dont nap when I get home) I sleep fine. Is there a reason taking naps during the day ****s up my sleep schedule that night? and anyone have any ideas for an energy boost about an hour before lifting so I dont have to take a nap?

if your taking power naps, you feel energized when you wake up, so your body doesnt feel as tired at night.
so basically, cut out the naps...why do you do them anyway?

dont do the naps at all. i used to have the same problem. try having a large meal with lots of carbs right when you get home. or see how much sugar you consume before that time. excessive sugar will cause an energy dip sometimes.

I have the same problem. Its just because most teens naturally don't wake up until later, so waking up early for school makes you tired in the afternoon. If you take a nap, your body obviously has regained some energy so you don't need to go to bed until later.
I do that all the time and it sucks. Only, I cannot take a nap and then workout, i always feel way too lethargic and ****ty after taking afternoon naps. I have been taking One A Day Active multivitamin pills that help enhance energy, and I havn't needed to take a nap since! I seriously think they do help. The two times I have tried to take a nap, I didn't fall asleep but just rested. I think they do give me more energy, so maybe try taking those? Otherwise, school will be out soon and you'll get to sleep in for awhile.

2nd answer, God allowed man to create redbull for a reason....if anything it will give you wings. then again God allowed man to isolate the coca leaf too.

From my experience don't nap at all, they just don't help with anything when it comes to trying to fall asleep at night, trust me. Just stay up through the day.

x2.
Studies show that a 30- 1hr minute nap can help you out a lot more than a few hours nap during the day. You go through sleep cycles when you sleep. When you take a quick 30 minute nap in the middle of the day all you get is REM sleep which is good for you. You might wake up 3x more energized than before.
If you take longer naps you might be entering different stages in your sleep, which is not what you want if you aren't dedicating a full nights sleep to follow it.
I dunno, it's what I've been learning in psychology. If any of you caught mistakes in what I said, correct me. I might have not been taking enough notes in class. haha

I have had a similar experience w daytime naps. I've heard that when you take daytime naps your night-time REM cycles get messed up, so you don't actually get a good night's sleep that night.
My suggestion (what worked for me):
-Cut out naps completely during the day (yeah, it's hard for the first day, but then you get used to it)
-Make sure you aren't eating a huge meal right after school, since this can cause a huge dip in your blood sugar level; if you have too much blood rushing to your stomach, you're gonna feel sleepy
-Don't eat in the 2-3 hrs before bedtime, since this can also mess up your sleep
-Also consider having half a cup of coffee right after school, but no later than 4 or 5 pm.
Try those out dude. They worked for me and hopefully for you too.

I have trouble sleeping at night too, except I dont nap at all...
I could be really tired but once I lay on the bed, I am AWAKE. Looking into buying some ZMA or GABA but is it safe for someone my age(16)? Thanks for any advice (reps).

I used to do this plenty when I was on Rippetoes/Max-ot...thing is I didn't figure out WHY exactly I was tired till...
..I got myself a multi vitamin ..as simple as it sounds...
..Are you taking one? As soon as I began taking a Multi I wasn't tired at ALL when I got home etc..

Take vitamin B an hour before your workout.
And, if you have trouble falling asleep, rub your fingertips on your bed, the nerves in your hands can put you to sleep within 5 minutes.
