you get a two for one - Tom Platz blowing everyone's minds with an amazing squat set and big Bill Kaz in the background cheering him on..

Oh, you think that is impressive? check these videos of olympic weightlifters squatting over 600 without belt, wraps, and spotters for reps. Here:
http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/...ase.yahoo.com/
Ps-click on 295 squat-that's 650 pounds

When I saw this, my mouth dropped. There is also a tape out with someone doing 315(693) without a belt, wraps, and spotters. Do you have the tape?

the o-lifter did 650 for 3 or two reps , doing it rock bottom(below parallel, with no belt,no spotters, and no wraps. He also was shown carrying on a normal conversation with someone before the lift like the squat was normal and didn't faze him. that is amazing.

Yeah, but they train in a low rep range, generally. Platz couldn't Snatch 200kg, either. Apples and oranges, so to speak.

Dookie's right about apples and oranges. Platz was amazing, and worked at an intensity nobody else matched, but he wasn't a powerlifter.
In a sense, it makes his strength even MORE amazing, since he was never training for that. He just DID it. Can't compare him to power and oly lifters, though. Obviously guys are stronger than 495x23, but for a regular bb'er, it's pretty damn amazing.
I've watched the video about 5 times now.

Those olympic lifters are crazy. Some of those dudes are small as heck and lifting huuuuge numbers. Very impressive.

Isn't that weird? you would expect someone that lifts that weight to be very huge but these guys look like normal people. It just shows you how people train when it comes to lifting weights.

The understand the importance of low reps. And yet women, who want to be "toned", which for them means small and muscular, do high reps. Go figure.

Nicu Vlad Snatches 200kg at a BW of 100kg. He SNATCHES 2x his BW. I was happy when I deadlifted 2x BW.

One guy (this is in my Ironmind magazine), still has the record for the clean and jerk-He did 255kg-562pounds in 1990 that still stands today. His name is Leonid Taraneko. What I have heard that somehow the clean and jerk and squat both boost each other because they both do almost similar movements. And what I have also heard is that olympic lifters can also deadlift even heavyier weight because of their form. Raimond Bergamnis is the only lifter I have seen that has been able to do this. He use to be a 10-olympic Latvian member and has snatched alot of weight. The most I have seen him deadlift is 772-ALL LOW BACK, no legs. He now does strongman.
