Proud Parent Post
I'm proud of all the hard work my 6th grader has done during the past several months and it paid off. His middle school had a track and field day at the high school. My son won first place in all of his events. About 20 high school kids came to watch him run the 100m dash. The 100m dash was a 'jaw' dropping event. He beat the second place kid by almost 2 seconds. He ran a 12:28 100m and a 28:16 200m dash and his name is going on a plaque in the school.
After the race, several kids asked my son how he became so fast. Little do they know he has been lifting weights and sprinting 4 days a week in preparation to be #1 in his grade.

Way cool! Get him hooked while he's young.

Wow, great job!!! Love to hear stories like that about kids. Can't wait to hear how he does as he gets older. I have 2 girls in track now. One a soph. and one an 8th grader. His speed will change tremedously as he gets to high school.! Keep him motivated dad!!!

That is great. Your son sounds like a very determined boy and I am sure it helps having you around to set a good example. It is rare nowadays, it seems, for kids to be interested in sports that early. It is great that he made the effort to prepare himself for an event like that. I recently have seen the good example paying off also. My daugther has become more interested in exercising and eating healthier. She is always pointing out to me how she only drinks one soda per day, etc. When I go to her school I am shocked at what a majority of the other kids look like. I amazes me where we live that kids as early as sixth grade can elect to not take PE and take band instead.

I know what you mean about todays kids. I'm shocked too.
Funny thing is my two sons are why I got back into lifting. Two summers ago we fell off a Waverunner at the lake and I couldn't pull myself back onto the thing. Both my boys started laughing at me and the oldest son (already weight lifting) made a comment on how fat I was. That woke me up. I joined the YMCA the next week and I am glad I did. Now the youngest is interested in weight lifting. It's great!
