Weight lifting for people still growing
I found this earlier and I thought that there was some logic to it, can someone please tell me what's the deal with this?
Again I did not type this
Our spinal cords are made up of many bones and in between each bone is a soft, squishy collagen material that holds some water. This material helps to cushion the impacts on the spinal cord and the water it loses is hard to replace. Especially for young ppl whose bones are still growing, free weights training can stunt growth. Generally, our body stops growing around 21 years of age.. That's when you can do a lot of weights and still not be affected too significantly..
Generally, weight training will help to induce more calcium uptake into the bones and thus bones will grow strong. But improper weight training can cause undue stress to your bone joints, cartilage and growth plates. Once damaged, it'll be hard to restore them. The reason why growth can be stunted by Deadlifts or free weights is because of the extra pressure that they pile on our spinal cord. To do it once in a while will not have significant detrimental effects but long term free weights training can induce stunted spinal cord growth.

That never explained how it can effect spinal cord unless you injure it. You lose water from everywhere from your body. thats why we drink lots of water?
Just because some water in your spinal cord is gone, it wont stunt your growth. there is so much blood going through your spinal cords i doubt its hard to replace water.

Eat more calcium then youll be fine.
Lifting weights strengthens cartilage.
Deadlift shouldnt be done heavy unless you get your form down 100%

It will not stunt your growth. Everyone should get into bodybuilding as a way to improve ones body. There are numerous studies to counteract that one. Do what you want if you want to bodybuild go ahead, don't be discouraged by one stupid persons opinion

A couple of years ago when I was a noob to weightlifting, I was doing about 100 bicep curls a day. I was lifting really heavy for me one day and the next day I woke up with really bad pain in my elbows. Even today they ache a bit when I lift heavy.
But that aside, I grew about 4 inches since then so that didn't stunt my growth.

I'd rather lift now and be 5'9 and built when I'm 21 rather than maybe gain an additional 2 inches at the cost of being scrawny.

Hey I'm 5'9 and 15 yrs old and if anything weight training has actually helped me grow taller, I don't know how though. Maybe the more muscle you have, the more testerone you have, which in turn makes you taller?? I dunno.

How many reps is too low of reps? I usually do 10, sometimes I do 6 on my third rep.

I disagree. Like said above there have been countless studies done to counteract what you just copied and pasted. Some people on these forums have said that they seemed to INCREASE in height while lifting. The only way weightlifting can ever be dangerous is if you don't have proper nutrition or proper form. That having been said, I think it is easy to conclude that this is a bunch of BS. BTW - you are 5'5" at what...age 15? Do you think that your own sense of inferiority could create a biased opinion? One more thing, when teenagers are bodybuilding and bulking, don't you think that could be beneficial to growth (because they are eating more nutrients)?
I am 14 years old, 5'9"...Although I am young, I know a lot more about bodybuilding than some people on this site. I have been actively reading articles all over the internet for about a year almost every night. And the only way I have ever seen anyone's growth become stunted was when they broke a growth plate (a bone).

My most recent growth spurt correlated exactly to when I started lifting
As long as you're injury free, you won't stunt your growth. If anything, the increases in test and GH should promote your growth. I'm not really sure where the myth came from in the first place.

Another theory that I heard is that since it releases testosterone, it might fuze your growth plates since it happens so fast supposedly.
