MOTIVATIONAL STORY - Fat Kid & Skinny Kid Part I

Johnny Delray and his friend Timmothy Walker were two kids in my neighborhood. Of course, nobody called them that. Early on they earned the nicknames "Fat Kid" and "Skinny Kid". Of course, that was when people were being either kind or just lazy. More often than not, Johnny "Fat Kid" Delray would be subjected to names such as Lard Ass, Fat Body, Tub of Crap, Fattie, Fatso, Fatty Fat McFatFat, Big Fat Slob, Disgusting Fat Slob, Ass McFat, Blob, Fat Blod, Disgusting Fat Blob and many, many more. That was just his parents, too. The other children were far worse. Tim "Skinny Kid" Walker didn't get off much easier. "Runt", "Peabody", "Wimp", "Dweeb", "Scrawny", "Punk", "Spaghetti Arms", "Cave In" (referring to his sunken chest), "Chicken Boy" and a whole host of derrogatory names.

The other children were not nice to either Fat Kid or Skinny Kid. It seemed as if every day someone was depantsing them, stuffing them in garbage cans or throwing them in trash dumpsters, kicking them in the testicles over and over, mummifying them in toilet paper or likewise either pummeling or humiliting them in public. The teachers at school were fully aware of what was going on, but they took no action to stop it. They figured it wasn't their problem, boys will be boys - or maybe deep down they enjoyed seeing this akward pair getting humiliated.

I remember one day I was on my way home from school and I saw a group of guys chasing someone. Squinting my eyes, I looked and saw it was none other than Fat Kid. Curious, I went over to where Fat Kid had been cornered and watched. Bill Tullington, Jake Gordon and Trey Wilson were all members of the football team and known as jocks. The trio had corned fat kid and were calling him names. The began pushing fat kid, back and forth, back and forth, between themselves. Fat Kid bounced around like a pingpong ball between them until Bill T. tripped Fat Kid and sent him spirring onto the ground with a loud, "Thump!". The bullies laughed a mean laugh and began stomping on Fat Kids belongings and proceeded to destroy and rip apart his school books. I remember wondering to myself at the time how much it was going to cost Fat Kid to replace his Algebra I and Sociology books, not to mention how he'd end up doing his homework.

As Fat Kid laid sprawled out on the ground, groaning and silently weeping to himself the bullies took out some electricians tape. Up until this point the happenings had been quite standard and were of little note as this kind of thing happened to Fat Kid and Skinny Kid very regularly. I watched as Jake took the tape and wrapped it around the large body of Fat Kid effectively immobilizing the rotund youth.

A crowd was gathering by now. Although everyone was used to seeing Fat Kid and Skinny Kid being bullied, something new was in the air and everyone knew it. With each time Jake wrapped the tape around Fat Kid, the crowd grew and grew. In not time I would wager half the school was watching what I was.

At this point a voice cried from the crowd, "No!! Stop!". I looked over and saw as Fat Kid's only friend, Skinny Kid, clawed at the crowd, desperately trying to break through the mass of humanity. By the time he had reached, panting and gasping, Fat Kid was completely immobile and were it not for the darting desperate movements of his horrified eyes one might have mistaken him for a grotesque statue fallen and crumpled on the ground.

Skinny Kid moved forward and desperately pleaded with the bullies to stop.

"Please, no.. please just let us leave... I am begging you... don't do this.. please don't do this...", he gasped.

Cockily, the trio just laughed.

"Now it's your turn, Skinny Kid.", the third bully Trey muttered.

Skinny Kid turned pale and meakly put his arms up in a vain effort to defend himself. But it amounted to nothing. From behind Jake Gordon put Skinny Kid in a choke hold and lashed it on tight. Skinny Kid's formerly white face turned red as he gasped for air. The bullies then used the remaining tape to secure him and tied him next to his fallen friend, Fat Kid.

At this point I thought to myself perhaps this had gone on long enough. I darted my head around looking for a teacher. To my surprise I saw in the distance our Vice Principle, Mr. Heckler. He was watching the events unfold with a bored, glazed look in his eyes. I noticed him check his watch more than once. I then realized that, as usual, the teachers would be no help for Fat Kid or Skinny Kid. I contemplated helping them myself, but I knew as a writer is was not my duty to interfere with what was going on. Fat Kid and Skinny Kid were trapped and there would be no rescue for them.

They were on their own.

To conclude, Lard Ass and Spaghetti Arms started working out and eating right. Through patience and hard work they acquired new nicknames, Bad Ass and Big Arms. They maintained their healthy lifestyles for several years.

The oppurtunity came to attend their school reunion, and they had a chance to see all their classmates again. They shook the hands of their former bullies. With character and class they smiled at the pot-bellied ex-bullies. The bullies were shamed by the very presence of Bad Ass and Big Arms, even more so by how graciously the former victims treated them. Physical strength obvious, the two also proved strength of character with forgiveness.

And they all lived happily ever after.
