Lightbulb Trying to lose fat and gain muscle

I'm new to this game, so I don't really want to get too deep into it, but I want to meet some goals. Overall, I need to get into shape. I'm 6'5" and about 247 lbs. I carry all of my extra weight in my stomach--but what guy doesn't??

I joined a gym and have started eating better. I work out twice a day, because I'm trying to really make a huge difference quickly. I have to take a stress-test to get onto the fire department full-time. I'm not sure when that is going to happen, but it will probably be in a couple of weeks. I've been working out for two weeks now, so hopefully I'll have a full month of working out under my belt first. I have high blood pressure, so I just got a new med yesterday. Luckily they told me that it should make a big difference within a week.

I eat a big salad before dinner, my wife makes a balanced, healthy meal, I've cut out all sugars, eat whole grains, lots of protein, etc., etc. I work out first thing in the morning doing 30 minutes of cardio on the treadmill and then lifting for 30 minutes. In the evening, I go back and do another 30 minutes of cardio. I'm taking Nano Vapor and so far I really like it. I've also added Flaxseed Oil to my diet.

Any suggestions without getting too crazy into this stuff?? Thanks!

You should do your 30 minutes of cardio after you wourkout.

If you are not concerned about your meals, and are more concerned about the stress test, then train like you are fighting a fire, so to speak; ie: climb ladders, run stairs, etc. I own an X-vest (weighted vest) and they make a model geared toward firefighters. You can find out more here:

The stress test consists of being hooked up to machines to monitor my heart rate and blood pressure while I walk on a treadmill. They then increase the grade gradually. I've been doing just that on the treadmill, but working harder than I'll have to for the stress test. Thanks for the tip on doing cardio after lifting.

I have had a stress test before, I was still mentioning it for cardio endurance. Many of those activities can raise your cardio threshold.
