change of gym
Has anyone else changed gyms and found it hard to settle into your new one, ive just recently changed gyms to train nearer to the place i work and also a guy from my work wanted me to help him train so i opted to move, equipment wise the gym beats my old gym hands down in that everything is brand new and top of the range but everything seems so clinical, theres no clanking of plates or guys groaning through heavy squats in fact i hardly ever hear anyone spurring there partner on or busting there balls through a heavy bench set.........think im def gonna change back...

Give it a bit of time, you may get used to it. I have been to all kinds of gyms, from the ones that treat you like family to the ones that are populated with nothing but snobby brats. Stay there for a month and see how it feels after that. Hope you didn't sign a lengthy contract.

when i switched gyms it was a bit awkward, especially since the bench press didnt seem as comfortable. i think it was a good thing though - its always good to change something in your workout...

Changed over a year ago, as the gym I've been going to previously for 15 years closed. The owner knocked it down and put up about 12 townhouses.
I was pessimistic at first with my new gym, mainly because it was half the size of my old one. So that meant less equipment, more people, etc. But I adjusted. There are pro's to the new gym, better cardio equipment, it's cleaner, nicer, brighter, and closer to my house. The con's are it's more crowded, and alot of times you can't get the machine/bench etc, that you want because it's occupied by others.
After about two months at the new gym, I'm actually glad my old one closed down and I joined a new one. Change is good for some things in life. This was one of those things.

I always listen to music so the ambience isn't a big deal to me. As long as the equipment is good and there is plenty of it. I'm in upstate NY right now working out at aYMCA which is a far cry from the bb'ing gym I worked out at in San Diego but it isn't a huge deal.

Im in your exact position justlikeapeanut! I left my old gym because my trainer moved to a new gym. While my new gym is much nicer it seems to be more of a place to just hang out and meet people. At my old gym people busted their butts. I miss the other powerlifters at my old gym and the music was much better too. It just doesn't feel the same.

I switched from 24hr fitness to the base gym and I'm glad I did. Even though the base gym is more crowded (with machines and benches) I like the atmosphere much better. People there actually perform the forgotten/avoided exercises that everyone talks about here (weighted dips and pullups, atg squats, deadlifts, cleans, etc). I think the biggest plus is that there is a chalk bucket. I can't even find my straps now that I've been working out there for about 6 months.
