Why do people always think this???
Im 18 years old, just graduated from high school last june and am currently in community college where i am taking business classes (going to get an associates degree) but am an aspiring cop (i need 60 college credits aka associates degree - any field).
im taking business classes so that if i dont like being a cop i always can go back to colege and get a degree in business in 2 years....i cant be hired as a cop until 20-21 anyways so i mine as well take my time and get my associates degree while i have 2-3 years spare time.
the thing is while im in college i am working as a delivery driver on friday nights, and a gas station attendant on saturdays and sundays. Yet for some reason my parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, some people i work with, and people from high school that i dont talk to anymore (pretty much everyone) think im a looser who is going to be working these types of jobs the rest of his life. My dad keeps calling me a looser saying im 18 years old and should be out of the house by now working a trade. I dont know why this je*koff wants me to work a trade so bad but he wont shut the f*ck up about it. I want to be a NYC Police Officer, not a suburban philadelphia HVAC technician.
It all just boils down to, why do people think im a looser just because im working odd jobs while im in college?
cliff notes-
-18 years old
-in community college
-working odd jobs just while im in school so i have alittle cash
-parents, cousins, people from highschool, and some people i work with think im a looser because i havent started my career when i am in college so i can start my career as soon as i get my degree.
i mean what is it?

maybe it's more so the community college and not so much the jobs? lol, I use to listen to love line all the time and dr. drew never had anything good to say about them. I don't see a problem with community colleges though for what you're going for. Cheap and most likely easier than some of the bigger schools.

You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Period.

Do what you need to do for now. DON'T lose sight of your true goal though man. That's a VERY honorable choice to be made a such a young age. There will always be someone else who thinks they know better what you should or shouldn't be doing with your life. I say listen to them but make your OWN decisions. In the end you are the one who has to live with them. Also don't most people work odd jobs during college for extra cash? Seems the norm to me.
Either way good luck and ignore the negative people in your life.

You have a good goal, but the current reality is that you're still living with your parents, presumably without paying rent and all the other costs associated with being independent. . .

i really think my dad is jealous of me (serious). hes 52 years old and is a cop that never got promoted because he never stayed in the same dept. long enough. So instead of retiring 10 years ago, he still has to wait another 10 meaning he will have worked an extra 20 years than he needed with a salary that should have been 20k higher.
I also think he is mad because i am choosing where i want to live, which is NYC. There is no other place id rather live and thats where I WILL live. Him on the other hand grew up in the city (Philly) and moved out to the suburbs for a cheaper house because he was too worried about the money. He always wanted to live in Wildwood, NJ but he never will because now he is too far in debt.
And back when i was in highschool i had bad Social Anxiety Disorder but have gotten alot further in getting over that and also have done alot of "self-improvment" and my life hasnt been this good since i was alittle kid. I definetly love life more than i did wheni was in High school. So i guarentee people can see that.
So yea, i could see the jealousy thing!

**** the haters. Do what makes YOU happy, and if your parents dont like it, move out, assuming that is a financially feasible option.
