Your right to purchase dietary supplements is at stake?
If this is true we need to act ASAP:
This is a copy and paste quotation from http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/fo...pic.php?t=3583

Please read. Your right to purchase dietary supplements and obtain alternative health therapies is at stake...

Subject: ACT NOW: FDA Forbidding AllAlternative HealthCare
April 6, 2007
HEALTH FREEDOM ALERT
Your Action is Urgently Needed
Houston, We Have a Problem!
The US FDA is at it again. They have been notorious for decades for their biased attacks and uneven handling of natural, non-drug/surgery/radiation based health options. This time, though, they are playing for keeps.
The goal is simple: through a "Guidance" about the regulation of "CAM" (which they conveniently define as "Complementary and Alternative MEDICINE" the FDA hopes to serve the interests of Big Pharma by eliminating all CAM practices and products. ALL of them.
Here's how this deadly game is played:
1. By using the term "Medicine" rather than "Modality" for CAM practices, the FDA sets the stage so that anyone who is not a licensed physician is breaking the law by using these modalities since they are therefore 'practicing medicine without a license'.
2. By using the term "treatment" rather than "therapy", the FDA limits hose who can perform these practices to licensed physicians and, again, anyone who is not a licensed physician is breaking the law by using these modalities since only licensed practitioners can treat. So people using these modalities are therefore 'practicing medicine without a license'.
3. By using the terms "Medicine" and "treatment" instead of "Modalities" and "therapy", all substances, including vitamins, minerals, herbs, co-factors, etc., automatically become untested drugs since they are being used to prevent, treat, mitigate or cure disease states. Such use can only legally take place with FDA approved drugs.
Here's How We Protect CAM Practices,
Practitioners and Products
Numbers. Sheer volume of response. Nothing more and nothing less. NOW is the time to act. Our window of opportunity slams shut on April 30, 2007
http://tinyurl.com/2u7ghc
That is the link which allows you to send a comment directly to the FDA about their deadly "Guidance". Will it matter? Yes, if millions of people respond. So I am asking you to take this "viral".
Here is what you need to do
NOW
if you value your freedom:
1. Click on the link below and add your name to the letter. When you click "Send" it will be electronically delivered to the FDA docket site and posted.
2. Write a brief note (or copy the information in this email) including this link , http://tinyurl.com/2u7ghc , and mail it to every one you can. In your email please:
a. Include everyone you know and tell them that their freedom to choose their own health modalities and options is under serious attack.
b. Send the same email to the the companies which make the vitamins, minerals and herbs you use and ask them to send it out to their entire mailing list.
c. Impress upon the people you contact that we are facing a virulent an=
d highly organized assault on ALL natural products and procedures because they do not feed the pharmaceutical coffers and that their help is crucial.
d. Include a link to the Natural Solutions Foundation website (www.HealthFreedomUSA.org ). Ask them to become familiar with the site in order to lend their support to the health freedom battle which threatens their right to make their own health choices.
NOW!
If you have ever thought about taking action to protect your health fre=
edom, NOW is the time to do it.
If you have never thought about taking action, now is the time to think=
about it and do it.
In my opinion, this is a full blown assault on your rights and mine to opt for strategies which use natural options and procedures.
5,000,000
That's our goal. Two weeks, five million comments to the FDA, all asserting our fundamental right to control our own health.
Can we do it? It's up to you.
Here's the link:

The future of natural health and health freedom is literally in our hands!
Yours in health and freedom,

http://www.newstarget.com/z021789.html
http://www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98f...80-gld0001.pdf
"...a product used in a CAM therapy or practice may be subject to regulation as a biological product, cosmetic, drug, device, or food (including food additives and dietary supplements) under the act or the PHS Act. Second, neither the act nor the PHS Act exempts CAM products from regulation."
Translation: Anything used in any system of medicine may now be regulated as a drug or medical device by the FDA. This includes a biofeedback machine, acupuncture needles, a cup of herbal tea, massage oil, a glass of vegetable juice or even a bottle of water.
"...if a person decides to produce and sell raw vegetable juice for use in juice therapy to promote optimal health... [and] if the juice therapy is intended for use as part of a disease treatment regimen instead of for the general wellness, the vegetable juice would also be subject to regulation as a drug under the Act."
Translation: Raw vegetable juice will be regulated as a drug and must be FDA approved as a drug if it has any health effect whatsoever. Handing a cup of raw vegetable juice to someone and telling them it's good for the detoxification of their liver will get you arrested for practicing medicine without a license and promoting an "unapproved drug."
..."biologically based practices" includes, but is not limited to, botanicals, animal-derived extracts, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, prebiotics and probiotics: whole diets, and "functional foods". ...a botanical product intended for use in treating a disease would generally be regulated as a drug." ..."functional foods" may be subject to FDA regulation as foods, dietary supplements, or drugs under the Act.
Translation: All foods, supplements, superfoods and functional foods may be reclassified as drugs by the FDA, then regulated off the market.
If... the manipulative and body-based practices involve the use of equipment (such as massage devices) or the application of a product (such as a lotion, cream, or oil) to the skin or other parts of the body, those products may be subject to regulation under the Act."
Translation: Massage oils and creams will be regulated as "drugs" and acupuncture needles as "medical devices." Taking this absurdity one step further, massage therapists who use their fingers to touch patients may have their fingers regulated as "medical devices" and be accused of practicing medicine for merely touching patients.

I am doubting it will happen anytime soon... the supplement industry is growing and it would put so many places out of business and increase unemployment a bit. But if it makes the government an extra buck maybe it will happen. Either way if I have to buy my stuff like it is steroids then I will.

You shouldn't doubt, there is a link to an FDA document where everything is written down what I quoted earlier. Big pharma has million times more money than the supplement industry so there is no doubt they are in a winning position. This thread should be STICKY.

From what I've read on other forums, it can happen as soon as 2009.
Anyone who doubts it is full of ignornace and not doing any reading. Do you even know WHY you "doubt it will happen". People are in denial. It's happened in Europe and other countries, why be so sure it won't happen here? I know there's one country that won't even sell Epson Salt(magnesium sulfate). And canada is going to be next.
The gov is losing money because of all the people into natural health, holistic health, organic, pesticide foods..etc. So they want them stopped.
I don't like the guy.. But it's kind of like how Kevin Trudeau is all over the TV with his infomercials selling books with names like "What they don't want you to know.."(Meaning the FDA and drug companies) and they've tried to shut him up.

Sucks. Even if by chance it doesn't happen within the next couple of years, it probably will sometime in our lifetime.
I'm sure most of us here heard stories from grandparents about how much things have changed since they were 20. Like how there wasn't so much of these weird health problems as these days. So gotta wonder how much different our lives are going to be 50 years from now.
Then you have the religious people..especially Christians who swear it's written in the Bible or people who say Nostradamous even predicted it.lol. Like that microchip thing. I don't know, just saying. I remember a long thread about that on here from a while ago.

Exactly thats what I read earlier. The end of 2009 is the Codex Alimentarius commission's target date.
Big pharma's incomes grew 7% in 2005. They could have earned MORE I suspect without the existence of alternative medicine.

Yeah, that reminds me.. I had an eye infection and the eye doctor gave me a prescription for drops with steroids in them. My insurance didn't cover it, I would've had to pay like $75. I found something at WholeFoods to cure it just as fast for $12. All the drug company needs is 13 people with eye infections and they just made $1,000. The herbal company would get $156 profit from 13 people and they're happy enough with that.
Alternative medicine started getting more popular thanks to the internet. Even when you're not looking for it, you still come across it and people get interested and do more reading. There was that "Save the internet" thing going around too.. Probably for the same reasons.

the only thing that separates us from the ukraineiane type countries is our ability to tolerate being continually ****ed over, and a body of water. it is un-patriotic to stand by and let a few lucky people in the right position destroy this country.

I urge everyone that wishes to buy supplements in the future to take interest in this. This is no joke, and I for one do not care to give the FDA any more power than it already has.

Then vote and volunteer, posting on some random forum = nothing. Or you could be like my cousin and have three concussions from IED's and he has lost three of his best friends in one explosion.
Or be as vein as Nick Berg and think that anything besides the power to kill means **** in the grand scheme of things. If he were alive today I am sure he would have said how great we have it in the USA.

Agreed. I'm just not sure what you're supposed to do to fight it besides spreading the word. What are people supposed to do.. fly to the FDA building and go on strike from buying prescriptions/drugs/food/basically torturing themselves while they laugh at you because some people would die without the drugs.
I don't think those online petitions amount to much.. One person can make 100 fake names and emails and be against it.

Freedom...
As has been said, complaining on an Internet forum is all but worthless. What is worthwhile, though, is leading people to their own questions, investigation, and hopefully outcry against any measures that limit our personal freedoms.
It isn't bad enough that we have a large portion of the nation permanently hooked on medication that has crippling side effects, but now they want to limit they modalities available to us.
The fact that this not only encroaches on the healing modalities outside of licensed medical practitioners, but that it also deeply influences our right to purchase supplements angers me. These are not only for medical, but also recreational, purposes (If we may call building a healthier, more powerful, body recreational). What is next? This sets a terrible president, aside from being terrible, itself.
I urge you to -rather than wasting your time as I am doing even now- send a letter of dissent. Its impact may not be decisive, but your effort needs be equally as diminutive.
Thank you.

Thats right, sending an email is surely a waste of time, everyone who is interested and I hope not just a few dozens of people are interested should call their congressman. Then your voice will be heard for sure and you've done everything that can be done.

I dont know why so many people hate the FDA, their soul purpose is to protect people from harmful products,
Most of the members reading this, or on this board know supplements, they know whats in them what they do ect.. but the FDA isnt lookin at us, they are looking at the 16 yr old high school kids who walk into a GNC and see tons of supplements, having no clue what they do just buy them and use them.
Im all for the FDA

they should have to change their name then. FDA stands for food and drug administration. supplements aren't a good and they aren't a drug so they shouldn't be able to touch them.

Supplements will not be regulated nor banned...if the FDA can't fully ban Ephedra, they have no chance with safe/effective products...especially protein/creatine/etc.

Hence why the following statement is on any supplement sold in the USA:
"These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not indended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any diseases"

Did you read http://www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98f...80-gld0001.pdf ?
France, Germany and Norway is now under the full regulation of the Codex Alimentarius. The Codex proposals already exist as law in Norway and Germany where the entire health food industry has literally been taken over by the drug companies.

One could fill a couple zillion reams of paper outlining what is wrong with the current situation. The FDA is forced, in considerations of time and manpower alone, to make sweeping generalizations concerning either unsafe or borderline agents, without regard to whether it affects persons legitimately using/making them or the idiots out there abusing them and those companies who support this type of deplorable activity.

Many supplements qualify as food. There is an amendment sanctioning the FDA to oversee this facet of the industry. The name of the agency is indicative of its main function, but just because the word supplements does not appear in the actual title, does not mean they do not have jurisdiction.

Ephedra is not proven to be unsafe. The double standard has existed for years (consider how available alcohol and nicotine are now) with elements that may be unsuitable for consumption. It is far easier for the FDA to just ban various elements and let the DEA or whoever else enforce it, rather than spend a lot of time, money and effort investigating such a minor portion of the overall picture. It is still far easier for them to just completely ignore it, so long as it does not create work for them. Creatine and protein have not been found to be harmful, as long as they are not "loaded" or have purity problems, but trying to compare those to ephedra is a bit simplistic. It is very hard (but not impossible) to have one big overdose of either protein or creatine and create medical problems. That is not the case with ephedra, Y, etc.
Bottom line is that if supplements ever start taking a more prominent portion of the market share (Muscle Milk now in grocery stores, a lot of formerly "GNC-only" type products also getting shelf space, particularly Twinlab stuff) and begin to create problems that the FDA has to deal with, if they are forced to intervene, **** will start getting banned right and left...
