UF doesn't have the fan base of other universities partly because they (along with most Florida unis) are fairly new to sports.
You takea team like Notre Dame or Ohio State, they've got a lot of fans partly due to them being around the scene for ages.
Plus, University of Florida, like in football is kind of boring to watch in basketball. They have a good team and work well together (which obviously works) but never have too many big time playmakers. America loves showboating, scandals, and playmakers.
That's why the whole game last night was focused on Greg Oden and not UF. He's the one in the limelight regardless of if Ohio State loses.

Where's the link to back up those 'facts'. The O Dome has been selling out for a few years now.

Interesting, considering the O-Dome has sold out for the past four years. Where did you get this info?

I was sort of wondering the same thing.
UF has always been primarily a good basketball program.
While I've never been to a UF b-ball game, I've been to plenty of their football games at the Swamp and that is always packed.

I actually have to disagree with you Lothar on the part about this UF team and last year's (the same team) being boring to watch. I will surely miss watching these guys play together. You're right there was no "showboat" but it was fun watching them play together as a fan of the team.

No, personally I find it fun to watch. I love it when teams play like that. I wish FSU could do that now.
I was just trying to say that most Americans love showbaoting sports based heavily on individual's success. At least, it seems that way to me.

Yeah, I guess from someone who isn't really a fan the "team" concept would be quite boring.

I have always been a gators fan way before it was cool to be a Gator fan. Could be cause I live in Florida and have a had a few friends play for them.
Either way these wins just make it nice to be a gator fan or once.

Basketball will always be second to football at Florida which is why Billy D. will go to Kentucky or the NBA for greener pastures.

wtf are you smoking?? yes, oden was the most higlighted player, but the announcers kept talking about how three of florida's players should be lottery picks(compared to just oden for osu) they showed joakim noah every one of the 8800 times he made a weird face on the bench, despite the fact that he did nothing in that game. oden had more points than floridas 3 big men together. the stars of the game were floridas 3 point shooters
lol at op getting owned by florida...

Well they had to show at least one UF player...can't show Oden all the time.
The game I watched, the commentators went on and on about Oden.
You would hear tid bits about how Noah really wants to win, but 90% of it was about Oden.
You almost can't blame them though, Oden was a bad mother in that game. He didn't just block shots, he swatted the hell out of them.

Why would Billy go to UK? Expectations would be unrealistic there. If he didn't make the Final Four in two years they would be ready to hang him. He stays at UF and will be the highest paid college coach.

Much better facilities and much better history than UF. Kentucky is the dream job in college BB. Even Pitino has said so. They only fired Tubby after 11 years they aren't near as fickle as UF fans, remember Ron Zook?

I'll agree on the history but I can't imagine the facilities being that much better. Florida can also match any salary UK throws at him.
Why would he want to live in the shadow of Rupt(sp?) when he can create his own legend at UF.
If he goes anywhere it will be the NBA.
BTW, Zook got fired because he sucked. Tubby did a good job.

^^^
Facilities at UK are superb. He has nothing more to prove @ UF. No question that UK's bball history is far greater than UF's. I hope he checks them out and makes the best decision for himself. If he stays, I have a feeling there will be an encore of players returning for the 07-08 season. Florida boosters will raise the ante and make his offer asinine if need be.

If it's such a great job then why did Pitino say no?
Ron Zook is at the University of Illinois for a reason. The guy flat out cannot coach. He had too many let downs for games that he was suppose to win, he instilled no discipline in the players and he even picked a fight with some college frat kids.
Tubby IMO was and still is a good coach.

Correct. It was clear he was just filling in until they found a real coach.
The only good thing he did was beat FSU in a game that didn't matter much for either team. Plus it was an FSU's Chris Rix era team, so that's not a huge win.
