How Jews view the End Times
http://www.chabad.org/library/article.asp?AID=108400
Quote:
What is the Jewish Belief About ?The End of Days??
The term ?End of Days? is taken from Numbers 24:4. This has always been taken as a reference to the messianic era and therefore we shall explore ? albeit briefly ? the Jewish belief in the coming of Mashiach.
What does the word Mashiach mean?
Mashiach is the Hebrew word for Messiah. The word Messiah in English means a saviour or a ?hoped-for deliverer?. The word Mashiach in Hebrew actually means ?anointed?. In Biblical Hebrew the title Mashiach was bestowed on somebody who had attained a position of nobility and greatness. For example, the High Priest is referred to as the Kohen Hamashiach.
In Talmudic literature the title Mashiach, or Melech Hamashiach, (the King Messiah) is reserved for the Jewish leader who will redeem Israel in the End of Days.
What is the belief in Mashiach?
One of the principles of Jewish faith enumerated by Maimonides is that one day there will arise a dynamic Jewish leader, a direct descendant of the Davidic dynasty, who will rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and gather Jews from all over the world and bring them back to the Land of Israel.
All the nations of the world will recognise Mashiach to be a world leader and will accept his dominion. In the messianic era there will be world peace, no more wars nor famine and, in general, a high standard of living.
All mankind will worship one G?d and live a more spiritual and moral way of life. The Jewish nation will be preoccupied with learning Torah and fathoming its secrets.
The coming of Mashiach will complete G?d?s purpose in creation: for man to make an abode for G?d in the lower worlds; to reveal the inherent spirituality in the material world.

A girl three years and one day old is betrothed by intercourse. "A girl three years old may be betrothed through an act of sexual intercourse," the words of R. Meir. And sages say, "Three years and one day old."
And if a Levir has had intercourse with her, he has acquired her. And they are liable on her account because of the law prohibiting intercourse with a married woman. And she imparts uncleanness to him who has intercourse with her when she is menstruating to convey uncleanness to the lower as to the upper layer. If she was married to a priest, she eats heave offering. If one of those who are unfit for marriage has intercourse with her, he has rendered her unfit to marry into the priesthood. If one of all those who are forbidden in the Torah to have intercourse with her did so, they are put to death on her account. But she is free of responsibility.
If she is younger than that age, intercourse with her is like putting a finger in the eye.
(Mishnah Niddah 5:4) [134]
Said Rabbi Joseph, "Come and take note: A girl three years and one day old is betrothed by intercourse. And if a Levir has had intercourse with her, he has acquired her. And one can be liable on her account because of the law prohibiting intercourse with a married woman. And she imparts uncleanness to him who has intercourse with her when she is menstruating, to convey uncleanness to the lower as to the upper layer [of what lies beneath]. If she was married to a priest, she may eat food in the status of priestly rations. If one of those who are unfit for marriage with her had intercourse with her, he has rendered her unfit to marry into the priesthood. If any of those who are forbidden in the Torah to have intercourse with her had intercourse with her, he is put to death on her account, but she is free of responsibility [M.Nid. 5:4].
Sanhedrin 7/55B [132]
R. Nahman bar Isaac said. "They made the decree that a gentile child should be deemed unclean with the flux uncleanness [described at Lev.15], so that an Israelite child should not hang around with him and commit pederasty [as he does]."
For said R. Zira, "I had much anguish with R. Assi, and R. Assi with R. Yohanan, and R. Yohanan with R. Yannai, and R. Yannai with R. Nathan b. Amram, and R. Nathan b. Amram with Rabbi [on this matter]: 'From what age is a gentile child deemed unclean with the flux uncleanness [described at Lev.15]'? And he said to me, 'On the day on which he is born.' But when I came to R. Hiyya, he said to me, 'From the age of nine years and one day.' And when I came and laid the matter before Rabbi, he said to me, 'Discard my reply and adopt that of R. Hiyya, who declared, "From what age is a gentile child deemed unclean with the flux uncleanness [described at Lev.15]? From the age of nine years and one day."'
[37A] Since he is then suitable for having sexual relations, he also is deemed unclean with the flux uncleanness [of Lev.15]."
Said Rabina, "Therefore a gentile girl who is three years and one day old, since she is then suitable to have sexual relations, also imparts uncleanness of the flux variety."
That is self-evident!

You mean Gehenna?
Jews believe in a form of punishment, yes, but it's not eternal like the Christian idea with fire and brimstone and ghouls and demons with pitchforks or any of that.
Gehenna, at maximum can last up to 11 months, in which case the spirit returns to G-d.
The 11 months is a rare case, and is only for very, very, very, very, very, very bad people, and those that are in Gehenna longer than that can still repent of their sins and get out of punishment.
Gehenna is a form of purgatory that cleanses one's sins before they return to G-d. It's not eternal, though. Is it fire and brimstone? Is it physical? Those things we do not know, but Gehenna is not eternal.
As far as who goes there, it can be anyone. But Jews don't believe that a person has to be Jewish to escape punishment. We believe that there are righteous people in all nations.

Gehenna is a physical place on Earth, how can it mean a supernatural place? And Gehenna is mentioned in the NT, by Jesus. Is it mentioned in the OT?
But what you have said about Gehenna is similar to what Revelation says about the "Lake of Fire".

It has everything to do with this thread. What Jews believe about the end times is extremely similar to what I believe about the end times, namely, in regards to the lake of fire. Their beliefs are much more accurate than a normal christian's.

Gehenna is mentioned in the Tanakh as a physical place, yes (valley of Hinnom) where the Canaanites made sacrifices to MLK.
As far as the nature of Gehenna, it seems to be purely rabbinic commentary. The Talmud goes into this more than the Tanakh. The Tanakh doesn't mention much of an afterlife, except that when a person's soul dies the spirit goes back to G-d. Perhaps the nature of Gehenna went from physical to symbolic of something else.
I think Gehenna is symbolic for the punishment one goes through. I would have to ask a Rabbi.
The point is, Judaism focuses more on here and now, it's not a religion that seeks converts nor does it have any hell to save people from. It's really about now, not the afterlife.
