eating disorder and wanting to get in shape
So its like this:
I am bulimic... this is actually the first time Ive said, well written this. I need help. I recently moved to another country, and am starting to make friends. I dont want to tell my new friends about this, and my family is literally thousands and thousands of miles away. Does anyone have any advice on how to overcome this? I dont speak the language well enough to go to a psychologist here... ahh and I seem to be lost for help on the net
about my body:
I am not fat, chubby as my grandmother says. I have most of my fat on my thighs and stomach. i have gained alot of weight this last year. 20 pounds.
I excercise almost everyday, but my stomach is still not flat, I love running, and recently started boxing at my gym. I always do 45-1 hr. of cardio.Id like to get down to 12% body fat.
nutrionally speaking I eat ok (during the day)
I have trouble with night eating, binging and purging, But only at night.
In front of everyone I eat perfect. They must know. I live in a country where fresh food is available all year, protein shakes are expensive. I work alot so I have to eat meals that are simple to make. I love salads, chicken, all fruits, and oatmeal. If anyone has a diet for great fat loss for me I would love the help.
My goal is to define my muscles, lose body fat, and improve the appearance of my skin. I feel so lost, has anyone felt like this.
Thanks so much I await your replies!!!

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems, but congratulations on making the decision to live more healthfully!
As for help, I would suggest that you start out by reading all of the stickied threads in the nutrition and training sections here; they are a great help for learning about what works, and how you can make it work for you.
As for food, you do not need to have protein shakes; fresh food is great! You just need to make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet from chicken, fish, lean red meats, etc... Also, you did mention lifting in your post, and that is very important in regards to transforming your body and living more healthy.
Also, I could be wrong on this, but I have read that maintaining at lower than 15% is not recommended for women and may not be healthy for long periods of time. You may want to look this up and consider if it is a healthy goal or not, especially considering your struggles in the past with body issues.
Again, congratulations; I hope you find what you are looking for here!

hi ajferr, good to see you are eating well during the day mate thats a good start and shows you have a certain amount of determination to beat your problem, well done mate and good luck in stopping the night binges i would say you know what to eat and not eat as far as your weight is concerned,so its a matter of sorting why you feel the need to binge at night rather than help with your diet.

Body for Life is a great way to get into the idea of regulated training and eating 6 small meals a day. It will give you some structure to work with and get you into lifting and doing HIIT cardio.
Good luck and please ask if you have any other questions. This place is all about help ad support

hey - i am on ed recovery too! i am recovering from anorexia nervosa and i've been weight training and shrieked to find out that i put on a pound (well for us a single pound does make matter doesnt it?)
you know that the feeling of being 'lost' can be helped by exercise? i start changing my definition of 'achievement' from 'losing more weight' to 'lifting more weight' and 'running further distance'. eat 6 small meals a day (if you are still insecure abt it, count the calories) so you dont get deprived and end up bingeing.
anything just pm me ok! glad to find somebody going through the same thing :-)

thanks everyone.. I love this site. Ive been preparing all week for the bfl program.. I will start this monday. I hopefullly will have a pic to post my progress, better yet, I have a friend starting with me. Im waiting because of easter. i live in Brazil, and the gyms will be closed thurs-sun. SO. monday it is!!
I do have 1 question. On this program, will i need to drink the shakes? I cant find them here. Id like an idea for a substitute. thats not a protein shake.
Also, I do boxing class 3x a week. I dont want to stop, so should i do weightlifting on boxing days? or cardio?
+ I love running can i run everyday?

I also would recommend, until you can see and feel how much better eating RIGHT and working out is for you, avoid the scale. I too struggled with an eating disorder and the scale is still the one thing that can trigger me. I am getting really good at thinking things through, but knowledge is power, so read up!
And congrats on coming to terms with your ED, it's not easy, but it's the best thing you can do.

First and foremost...
I know many openly bulimic girls, and they state the same goals that you have... The most important thing you need to understand that being a belimic goes against everything youd want to do to get a good body.
The hardest thing for people to understand is that in order to lose weight you MUST EAT MORE.
But it allll depends on what you eat, and when you eat it.
6 meals a day spaced apart by 2.5 - 3 hours. high protein, moderate carbs and fat, but keep the carbs contained to the first 2 meals. (thatll give you energy for the day, and you wont have excess carbs when you go to bed, which will lead to fat gain)
the last 3 or 4 meals of the day should be high protein, very small amount of carbs if you must... It wont hurt if its a tiny amount,. But the last meal should be all protein, very lean meat. This will prevent muscle breakdown during sleep.
I really hope you overcome that bulimia ! Its a terrible thing, and your metabolism is going into the crapper because of it ! Know that its the antithesis of your solution.

Yes, the scale is useless to me.
The mirror is the best scale you can use.
Im 150 lbs, but I dont have much fat on me, so I look pretty good
But there can be someone is 150 lbs, but has 18-20% body fat... Theyll look much worse than I do... Best thing you can do is not check the scale for a looonngg time, because it means nothing at first.
