Bloody keto kids
I'm seriously rethinking my attitude to children that mostly eat keto. The little brats have cleaned out the fridge.
"Oh, I used three eggs to make scrambled eggs for my lunch", said one. "And I melted lots of cheese for my lunch," said another. "All that beef was really nice, and I made myself some flaxbread for school lunch," said the eldest.
All that's left in the fridge is one tiny egg, some elderly smoked mackerel and a few radishes. Oh yeah, breakfast is going to be fun.

I need serenity in a place where I can hide
I need serenity, nothing changes days go by
Where do we go when we just don't know
And how do we re-light the flame when it's cold
Why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing
And when will we learn to control-Godsmack

Breakfast was even less fun than I expected, youngest daughter demanded an omlette for her breakfast, thus using up the very last egg. I ended up with the yummy (!) mackerel and a handful of walnuts.
I went out and bought 18 eggs, but we are already half way through them.
Yes, I'm glad they like good food and will eat meat and eggs rather than endless junk, but the way kids can eat will clear out a fridge in no time.

Five fridges??? And I thought I was bad.
I've just bought 3 kilos of salmon for half price, so that should hold them for a couple of days.

Well, you can buy the other half. It tastes so good I can't bring myself to share...lol. We only pay $1.40 a lb for everything. Doesn't matter if it's hamburger or t-bones. Last year we only bought a quarter thinking it would last awhile. Um, we were wrong so this time we're buying the whole half.

Well, last time we got a quarter it was a little over 150 lbs, so I'm guessing 300 lbs or so. Depends on the size of the cow, but he tends to take them sort of young so the meat is really tender but makes them smaller. Either way you can't beat $1.40 a lb for fresh beef and every different cut. He cuts them how you want too, which a lot of it we had it cut at and inch thickness. Oh, so mouth watering.

Aries, I was just teasing in the above post, but now you've got me thinking... *smile* Let me purchase a deep freezer first, and save up a bit of cash and I will surely take you up on this offer. What time of year does he usually do the butchering? That way I can plan ahead for next year. Also, will he ship to Texas or will I have to come to NY? Not that it's a problem as it will give me an excuse to visit my home (NJ). *smile* Fugeddaboutit...

why not look for something local? is it worth it travelling that far to save a few cents a pound on beef? lol... reminds me of the people who drive across the city to save 3 cents a litre on gas

I don't know anybody out here, and it's much more convenient to have it shipped to me. With shipping, it'll boost the total price what, a whole 20%? So, instead of my t-bones costing $1.40/lb they're going to cost $1.68/lb. Helluva lot cheaper than $7.99/lb at the grocery store. Plus, I get it delivered to my door? Fugeddaboutit. All in the cost of doing business. *smile* That's how fast food restaurants stay in business: convenience. As far as trying to compare this to driving across town to save money on gas, they're two totally separate issues. I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't make sense in this case. Sorry, not trying to be disrespectful or anything. Hope you're not offended.

Well, I'll excuse your ignorance of US geography. I'm not sure which country you live in but it's probably either Great Britain or Australia, so you may not be familiar with refrigerated trucks. Maybe you've never heard of dry ice, either? Either way, do you honestly think supermarkets buy their meat locally? If so, why is it usually frozen? Think about it. This is the 21st century. Most cattle in the US is usually grown in the Midwest. They have to ship halfway across country in order to get to either New York or California. As far as Texas and New York being on opposite ends, nope. Texas is considered Midwest. As far as you offending me, honestly do you think you have that ability? Truthfully, you and I don't know each other so what you say to me has no value. I'm sure the feeling is mutual. So, can we please stop the bickering like two old hens and actually post something useful? If you feel this must continue, please feel free to PM me so that we can spare the other members of unnecessary posts.
