1. oats - cheap, has 10 grams of protein for every cup, and is easy to eat lots of when bulking, my no 1 carb source
2. chicken
3. fish (this would be better then chicken but chicken takes the place because its cheaper)
4. red meat - packed with vitamins, andronic acid, and proble alot more goodies
5. honey - my personal fav - its like having your cake and eating it too, getting your sweets sugar, without the high gi. altho most fruits would fall in this category

I see just about everyone recommending oats, I *HATE* it though, hate it with a passion. I've tried mixing it in with my whey shakes, tried as oatmeal, etc, etc, I just can't stomach it.
So my substitute is whole wheat bread. Is there anything I'm missing out on by eating whole wheat bread instead of oats?

When you guys mention oats, do you mean cooked, or is it possible to eat them raw...? Doesn't sound to appetizing raw, probably like eating sawdust or something.
Cooked is really good though.

I used to eat them raw--that takes a lot of time and chewing. So does cooking them.
I grind them up in the blender and then blend it in with my weightgain shakes. Sucks when you get to the bottom of your cup (by then a lot has settled) but nobody said obtaining an awesome bod was easy.

^ Right on. I haven't tried them dry or with a shake, but is there any benefit over doing that, than there is eating them cooked....?

I just soak mine in water in the fridge overnight, by mourning they have soaked up most of the water, then when i wake up, I just throw in a scoop of whey and dig in.
At first I did it to save time, but I've started to like the way they taste raw, saturated in water.
