Dymatize Elite Whey
For all the hype on this board for dymatize whey protein I figured I'd give it a go. I don't really like coffee and many ppl seemed to recommend the cafe mocha so instead I tried the rich chocolate.
Taste - 5/10
It seemed really flat to me, I mixed it in about 6 oz of water and I really couldn't taste it at all.
Mixability - 3/10
This is what really upset me, I used a lot of water and the protein seemed really powdery so I thought it would mix well. After 20 seconds of average shaking I opened it up and there was little brown clumps EVERYWHERE. I shook vigorously for about 20 more seconds and there was still a decent amount of clumps. I seriously considered taking a picture to upload and show you guys, it was that bad.
Overall - 5/10
It should be a 4/10 but based on the ingredient profile and price i decided to give it a 5. This really is the worst protein I've had since GNC vanilla which made me gag while drinking it.
Sorry for the bad review cuz I know a lot of people on this board love dymatize elite whey. I did have a stuffy nose, so afterwards I tried my ON rocky road shake to see if this was the cause but it was a lot better, it was thicker and had a lot stronger taste. I'm no ON fanboy, i've tried many other protein powders like mrm's, metrx, eas, & designer whey, but their double rich chocolate was a lot better when I had it than dymatize's rich chocolate. Tomorrow I may try it again using less water and I might consider trying another flavor since I never saw that many people say choclate was their favorite. Besides cafe mocha what flavor do you guys recommend?

It's wheyyyy (haha wordplay ) too sweet and gets old fast. Cafe Mocha is the best route. but since you're not a coffee fan..there are some fairly good reviews for Berry Blast.

Im using the Mint Choc Chip(which isnt the best according to many Dynamatize users) and its wonderful.
On mixability I have no clue what you are talking about....violently shake in a shaker for 30 seconds and you might see perhaps one or two micro clumps after pouring all of the rest of it out....I mean its mixability is beyond good........the only thing I can think is I use milk. Of course you got to actually shake the crap hard....thats true of any solid mix guys.
As for the taste I think you ordered the least popular flavor....so....you shouldnt have expected anything THAT great.
Dynamatize is CERTAINLY the best low cost everyday use whey on the market. And thats coming fro someone who used ON for years, Metrx for a yr, Labrada bars and Isopure.

So far I hate cafe mocha (but I am very picky about my coffee, this has an instant coffee flavour I can't stand), and I hate berry blast.
I love the butter toffee and mint chocolate flavours.

I love cafe mocha but I like coffee. I think the berry is horrible. I think ON and Dymatize both have good and bad flavors and neither can really replace the other.

I have the Berry Blast. It's not bad. I tend to like fruity flavors though. I never had a problem with mixing and I use water. Maybe a few small clumps initially, but I just mix it some more. For the price and the ingredients I think it's an excellent whey. Once it's gone I'll probably try the Cafe Mocha everyone keeps talking about. Oh, and my husband doesn't mind it either.

I tried it again this morning. I really think i got a bad batch, I opened it up and I can't describe the smell, it's just bad, kinda like burnt plastic or something. I wish I had my camera, I tried shaking for about a minute this morning doing 1 scoop in about 6 oz and it was even WORSE. I couldn't drink more than 1 sip and just through the rest out. I think something is just wrong with this batch cuz I don't see how it is possible to be this bad . I really am scared to take it back though and try to exchange it for like chocolate mint, I really just want to get 5 lbs of ON chocolate .

if you refuse to use milk, i think it would be better to stick with the fruitier flavors. i dont understand how people can expect chocolate or mocha to taste rich, thick, and creamy with water. not that you said all of that, but it is the general gripe from water + whey users who disliked the cream based flavors. DE chocolate has a more darker, richer, premium taste to it and is similar to quality chocolates. ON rocky road (the only flavor of ON i do still like) has a much sweeter, american hershey budget chocolate taste. nothing is wrong with preferring one over the other as long as you can recognize the differences.
no idea where your mixability issue is comming from though. i have never ever had that problem, but then again i do use milk.

Here's my review of every flavor of Dymatize Elite Whey.
Mixed with water only.
Berry Blast: Flavor 10/10 Daily basis: 10/10
Solid berry flavor. Not quite strawberry. More like a creamy-style blend of strawberry and others berries.
I'm guessing strawberries and raspberries. Leaves your mouth refreshing.
Butter Toffee: Flavor 8/10 Daily basis: 5/10
I had high hopes for this one. It's a fairly bland drink. And if you put in too much water,
it's really on the poor side. Not really butterscotch. Not really butter toffee.
Somewhere in that vicinity though. So basically a month of "bland", leaves you wanting a new flavor
the next time. Might go good in milk.
Cafe Mocha: Flavor 4/10 Daily basis: 3/10
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do love starbucks frapichinos and mocha ice cream.
This unfortunately doesn't taste like either. Instead of being creamy or chocolaty with
coffee nuances...its more of the "bitter coffee aftertaste". Maybe it goes good after
a cup of the real thing in the morning. I don't know. It was really hard finishing the tub.
Chocolate Mint: Flavor 9/10 Daily basis: 5/10
Solid chocolate mint flavor. Bam. Chocolate! Bam. Mint !
But it's not the greatest on a constant basis.
The mint flavor "changes" from day to day depending on your taste buds.
Somedays it's satisfying, and others it leaves an aftertaste.
And let's face it, chocolate mint is not really a solid flavor to have 30 x 3.
It's not bad though.
Chocolate: Flavor 9/10 Daily basis: 9/10
I am NOT a chocolate person. I'm vanilla. So when I tried this I was "ehh
typical chocolate". Then after a few days I realized it was more like a chocolate
cake batter flavor. Rich but not heavy. And near the end of the tub I realized
this was very easy to drink multiple times a day, unlike some of the flavors.
Gourmet Vanilla: Flavor: 5/10 Daily basis: 5/10
As stated above, I'm a vanilla person. But this vanilla in comparison to all the
awesome flavors of Dymatize, leaves you feeling like you're missing something.
The vanilla definitely tries to be "rich" like a French vanilla ice cream...
but day in and day out, you realize it's pretty weak and something's missing.
Your taste buds are left bland.
Green Apple: Flavor: 7/10 Daily basis: 6/10
I was really hesitant on this one. But sure enough, it tastes like apple.
Not really apple cider, but more like an apple jolly rancher.
There's an aftertaste that fluctuates from day to day...
But overall it was pretty easy drinking.
After enough glasses, you can dissect the flavor into components.
There's a slight grittiness at the bottom of the glass.
Orange Dreamsicle: Flavor 10/10 Daily basis: 10/10
Awesome. Creamy orange. Awesome the 1st day and awesome the last day.
Highly recommended.
Pina Colada: Flavor 9/10 Daily basis: 10/10
This one surprised me. For being almost like a "vanilla" it had plenty of additional
flavors mixed in to make it far superior to vanilla. It's not a coconut flavor
so all you coconut haters don't be scared. Just a tangy fruity flavor that leaves your
mouth crisp and clean. Not heavy and weighed down like the "rich flavors"...
Because it makes your mouth crisp, it's a refreshing drink.
When I'd want to grab a soda, the pina colada drink was just as satisfying.
Too much water or not-cold-enough-water can alter the flavor a bit.
Smooth Banana: Flavor 7/10 Daily basis: 3/10
Wow, on day 1 I was liking the banana flavor. But by the end of the month I was regretting it.
Like most banana products it's a fake banana flavor. Almost exactly like a banana laffy-taffy.
After a week or so, your taste buds begin dissecting the "banana flavor" into 2 parts..
and one of the parts is a gritty bitter kind of taste.
Might go good in milk.
Overall:
- Orange
- Pina Colada
- Berry
- Chocolate
===
- Butter Toffee
- Green Apple
===
- Vanilla
- Coffee Mocha
===
- Banana

If you have a blender, add 1/2 cup of frozen berries to your butter toffee shake, and set it to ice crush.

damn im right now taking elite rich chocolate and loving it. of course i take it with milk, i cant stand any protein shake with watter...for me its horrible it must be mixed with milk...
and im a chocolate lover, its very hard to find a chocolate i like, if it dosnt satisfy my taste i preffer not to eat it. but when i tried dymatize chocolate it was like damn this taste good, and at least with milk (2%) it mixes very smooth.
im amazed on how bad experience it was for you...but if ON is better for you and your previous experience with it...stick with it, why fix it if it aint broke?

I can't believe that I found a negative DE review!
On a bright note, I'm not a coffee drinker either, so you helped me make a decision about this one.
Still wondering about the mixability, that's odd. The Orange Dreamsicle mixes very easily, I've never come across even 1 clump. That is with a blender though.

I've just bought the Berry Blast. Luckily the chap behind the counter was mixing one up for himself, so he mixed me one too.He did use milk and a blender though.
I went to see if I could finally find a protein shake I could drink without gagging on,and I did. So I'm quite happy.
The orange one sounds good, but they didn't have any. He did tell me the mint choc one is really sweet.
The Berry Blast one isn't very thick, but it does taste just like standard strawberry milkshake which is bearable, at least. Shame about the vanilla - I really like vanilla.

Just had the Chocolate mint for my postworkout which is:
20 oz water
1 heaping scoop of DE whey
24 g. Dextrose
2.5 g. HP CEE
5 g. Glutamine
This was a hell of a lot better than just plain water. I thought this was better than ONs chocolate mint. Now that Im convinced it tastes better, it still mixes horribly. I shook my damn shaker for a minute straight and it still had clumps on the top. Obviously a blender would take care of it, but I dont have one. ON has a better mixibility by far but right now Im thinking the DE has a better taste, Ill definitely buy another tub once Im done with this one.
